Question from Sean: Seeing as you play post-rock, a type of music not exactly known for its mass appeal, I guess it wasn't easy when you guys were first starting out... how did you go about getting your first record contract?

Mogwai: We put our first record out on our own label. Then we did one-off singles on small independent labels, then Chemikal Underground offered to put an album out for us.

Question from Brian: Why wasn't the new album called Exorcist 3 and what’s the story behind the Rock Action Title?

Mogwai: Stuart: They wouldn’t let me call it Exorcist 3!!!

Mogwai: Rock Action is a tawdry compromise!

Question from Jeremy Cox: Seeing as most of your songs do not have any lyrics, is there any intended 'message' in your music?

Mogwai: No!

Question from Statick: Who produced your new album?

Mogwai: Dave Fridman.

Question from krystle jayne gale: Is Gruff singing in Welsh on Dial:Revenge?

Mogwai: Yes, he is. We gave him the opportunity to express himself in his native tongue(!)

Question from Paul Long: How can I persuade my girlfriend to come and see you? She likes loads of nu metal sh~te and i've tried my hardest to convert her and educate her. Help.

Mogwai: Tell her we're a bunch of rides.

Question from Stuart: Any plans for T in the Park? The Bute gig will make me want more.

Mogwai: Our plan is to avoid it at all costs.

Question from Singing: Is Barry mental? Judging by the messages on your website, I think so.

Mogwai: Barry: I just get bored with the intensive work I do for this band.

Mogwai: I'm addicted to prescription painkillers.

Question from Michael arabstrapland: Where are all of Mogwai from, and more importantly what team do you support?

Mogwai: We're from Glasgow and Lanarkshire and all support Celtic.

Question from dirk digler: What does Mogwai think of the new Arab Strap album?

Mogwai: Stuart: It's good apart from the shoddy piano playing.

Mogwai: Barry: Cheeky swine! That was me that was playing on it!

Question from Mo Aziz: Are you going to be putting out any videos for songs from Rock Action, despite not putting out any singles?

Mogwai: Aye, probably.

Question from Statick1: what bands do you listen to at the moment?

Mogwai: Barry: I've been listening to nothing but the Smiths.

Question from noyen: I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, and it's amazing just how many people here are into you guys. My question is, do you have any plans on doing any sort of extensive US tour?

Mogwai: We shall do very little except tour your expansive country this year.

Mogwai: We fear your cheeseburgers and your awful real-life TV.

Question from agnes: What do you think of the Manics playing Cuba?

Mogwai: Good for them. Probably a very good holiday. As holiday scams go, 10 out of 10.

Question from tegan lennon: What bands have you signed to your new label?

Mogwai: The Zephyrs...

Mogwai: Papa M...

Mogwai: James Orr Complex...

Question from Mike Patton: How many songs will you generally play during your upcoming tour?

Mogwai: It really depends. An hour and a half.’s worth

Question from henri helicon: Have you any plans for a Scandinavian tour....perhaps in Finland...?

Mogwai: No, sorry, we're not going to Finland.

Question from Si Thomas: A bit of a sad guitar question, but are there any new groovy pedals used on the new album

Mogwai: Big Muff Pi, Electro Harmonix...

Question from Tom Sinclair: What were your biggest influences? Because your music doesn't really fit into any style

Mogwai: Funkadelic...

Mogwai: Joy Division...

Mogwai: The Cure...

Mogwai: The Jesus and Mary Chain...

Question from will hesketh: What was your favorite album of 2000?

Mogwai: Um...let us think about this one...

Mogwai: That's a difficult one...

Mogwai: The Bon Jovi album was rockin’!

Question from jeremy cox: What do you think of Godspeed You Black Emperor!?

Mogwai: Barry: I think they're a tremendous band.

Mogwai: They seem to play in a classical format, where their concerts will last for three hours.

Mogwai: If you go to see them, you know to expect it.

Question from Mo Aziz: Any plans to duet with Elton John for a cover of Eminem's 'Stan'?...

Mogwai: I'm sure they've never heard of us, but we'd love to do that!

Question from Singing: Will you be joining the fans at the after-show party in Glasgow, after the Bute gig?

Mogwai: If the ferry people let us back on the boat...if we're not excluded...

Mogwai: We'll probably be pretty tired, but we'll do our best.

Question from robbie fowler: What do you think is the best song you’ve recorded? It's gotta be Helicon 1!

Mogwai: Fair enough, then!

Mogwai: What can we say?

Question from will hesketh: Would you ever run ATP again

Mogwai: No, they only ever let one band do it once.

Question from staring elf1: What bands/artists did you guys listen to when you were little kids?

Mogwai: This will be weird...

Mogwai: Bob Dylan...Aha... Diana Ross... Dire Straits...(!)

Question from Pete34: Who's your favourite local band?

Mogwai: It used to be the Yummy Fur, but they've split up.

Mogwai: Now it's probably the Zephyrs - they're from The Burgh.

Question from Mo Aziz: How long did the new album take to record, writing aside?

Mogwai: About five weeks of recording and two weeks of mixing.

Mogwai: Not that long.

Question from Ben: Limp Bizkit at number one, a good thing or a very very bad thing?

Mogwai: Probably as depressing as boy bands being at the top of the charts...if not worse.

Question from ligament mcphee: What’s your favourite Black Sabbath song?

Mogwai: Em...it has to be N.I.B.

Question from mark serrels: Do you still wear Kappa tracksuits?

Mogwai: Sadly no. They don't give us any more free clothes...

Mogwai: and we've all grown out of tracksuits. Mogwai: It was the novelty of being able to get them for nothing.

Question from Tom Sinclair: How did you all meet?

Mogwai: Stuart and Dominic met at a Ned's Atomic Dustbin gig at the Barrowlands in Glasgow...

Mogwai: They later found Martin, the drummer, wearing an Oasis T-shirt.

Mogwai: John was poached from a Glasgow band.

Mogwai: Barry was poached from a band in Lanarkshire specialising in funk opera.
