Have you ever noticed that no matter what stage a person is in his or her life that they are in a constant struggle to design their world to be a more comfortable, enjoyable and even profitable place?
If you’ve ever watched a young child at play, you will notice that he places his toys in a very specific way that makes him feel comfortable and safe. Infact, psychologists can tell a great deal about a child’s life by observing the way he places the different elements in the pictures he draws. Teenagers too are notorious for plastering photos and posters and mementos around their rooms as a statement of their likes, dislikes and individuality. And adults themselves are the most obvious examples of creating and recreating environments that proclaim their needs, preferences and even dreams; from house decorating to garden tending to business building, we spend our whole lives designing the world in which we live.
Graphic Arts are just one more extension of our common need to reach out to others through visual communication. Whether it be a business card, newsletter, brochure, website or an extensive advertising campaign, we share, as brothers and sisters of the human race the innate need to Design Our World.
