Images Of A Marching Band
The following are pictures from my experiances in marching band. I love being in marching band and I think everyone should be in it. But since we all can't be, here are some images that illustrate what it is like to be one of those weirdos called marching banders.
Note- The music you are listening to or will be listening to is clips from our 2000-2001 marching show "Salute To The Man Of Mystery".
This is an official picture of the marching band I'm in at the MSBOA Marching Competition in October of 2000. That year we got a 1 (the same as a first place) at MSBOA and barely missed going to States. This was my first year in marching band.
This is the Alto Saxophone Section Band Camp 2001. I'm the second from the right.
This picture is from the last day for Seniors 2001. I'm the one in the green shirt. The other girl is my cousin, Colleen, who was a Senior when this picture was taken. The guy in the picture is a friend of both me and Colleen- Justin. He is in my grade and he's also now our Junior Drum Major.
This picture is from Band Camp 2001. We had been driven off the practice field by a thunderstorm and were forced to practice in a nearby gym.
DANCE JUNIOR DRUM MAJOR! DANCE! Yeah, this is a picture of my fellow alto saxophonist who has gone on to be Junior Drum Major, Justin. He's dancing while singing "Yellow Submarine". Why is he doing this? In our band if you lose something, you have to sing to get it back in front of the rest of the band. He lost his drum sticks, the trumpets found them, and, well, this was the result.
We banders arejust full of the dancing bug, aren't we? This is Heidi (one of my roommates at Band Camp 2001). She is listening to a CD and she's showing us the dance she made up to go along with it.
This is the view from the room I stayed in during Band Camp 2001.
This is a picture of my room during Band Camp 2001...Funny, it looks cleaner than I ever got my room at home to look.
This is a picture from the band New Year's Eve Party 2000. The guy is Joel and if you look real close you can see little ol' me peeking over his shoulder.
This is me! Yeah, I'm getting ready to leave for the 2000 Christmas parade and my mom just HAD to snap this picture. Thanks Mom! :)
I guess the old saying is right- great minds DO think alike. This is Karri (our Senior Drum Major) and her young charge, Justin (our Junior Drum Major), reviewing charts and music for the days work on the field during Band Camp 2001.
This is us marching off the field after the MSBOA Marching Competition in 2001.
What is a band without their faithful Flags? NOTHING! This is Ashley (the Colorguard Captain) skillfully whipping her flag through the night air. I have to admire these people. They have to wield those flags, some of them on 5 foot poles, with great care (so they don't smack one of us banders) and still look graceful. I know I couldn't do it. Rock on, Flags! :)
This is us just after playing "The Star Spangled Banner" at one of the home football games. If you look really close, you can see that we're in the form of an N. The two outside the formation are our drum majors, Karri and Justin preparing to march us off the field.
