Shades Of The Past ~ Chapter 17

8:13 AM, August 23, 2000

"Lauraaa! Helloooo?" Misty said, throwing her keys on the table next to the door as she let herself in. Leighanne, Teresa and Cherie followed her in reluctantly.

"Are you sure Laura's not going to be mad that we just let ourselves in like this?" Leighanne asked, looking around with a worried look on her face, Teresa and Cherie doing the same.

"Um, I don't think so. I mean, she gave me a key. If she didn't expect us to use it, why did she give it to me?" The other three women let out a relieved sigh, knowing that she was right. Sitting down around Laura's table, Leighanne pulled out her wedding notes.

"OK, you guys, it's not much more than a week before this wedding, and surprisingly enough, it's coming together beautifully. I'm glad Laura's going to be doing my hair. She's always got her hair up so nicely, and--" Leighanne was interrupted as Misty looked past her and saw Laura standing in the doorway behind her. Laura shifted nervously as she spoke.

"Umm, hey chicas... what are you, um, what are you guys doing here?" Laura asked, her voice shaky and her eyes shifty, blushing as she spoke. She walked to the refrigerator and opened it, pulling out the juice and pouring a glass.

"Uhh, hello? Remember? Wednesday morning, wedding plans... 'Eight o'clock, be at my place!'" Laura stood there in a daze as Leighanne continued to speak. "Any of this ringing a bell, Laura?" Realizing she didn't have her full attention, she said again, "Laura? You OK, honey??"

"She must be thinking about Nick," Misty said with a wink.

"Oh, yeahhh, that's right! Last night you and Nick had a big date," Teresa exclaimed.

Cherie was just as curious as the rest. "Yeah, Laura, how'd it go??"

Everyone's attention was diverted as they heard a cough. They turned to see Nick standing in the doorway where Laura stood just a few moments before. Attempting to hide their shock, but failing miserably, they looked at Nick then looked at Laura, and they knew how the date went.

"G'mornin', ladies," Nick said with a smile, walking up behind Laura who was standing at the counter. He put his arms around her, leaning down to rest his chin on her shoulder. "And a very special 'good morning' to you, Lovebug," he said, kissing her cheek and trailing down her neck, his tongue swirling over the sensitive skin at the back of her neck. "Did you sleep well?" he whispered, still kissing her neck, oblivious to the fact that they had an audience.

"Niiicky," Laura said quietly, playfully squirming and turning around in his arms. "Nicky, did you forget we have company??" she said, her eyes averting his as she looked at the table, four sets of eyes looking back, unblinking, eagerly watching and waiting for what would happen next. Laura smiled at them nervously and the girls smiled back, still not turning away.

Nick took his hand and turned Laura's head back his way so he could look in her eyes. He seductively ran his fingers through Laura's hair, which was still down. "I don't care, let them watch," he said, letting out a sexy laugh. "If they want to get jealous, let them." Everyone at the table groaned sarcastically, rolling their eyes, still watching Nick and Laura standing in each other's arms. "But, unfortunately, I do need to get going. I'll talk to you later??"

"You'll see me later, remember? You need a haircut," Laura reminded him, reaching up and running her fingers through his hair.

"How could I forget?" he asked sexily, leaning down to kiss her lips softly. Forgetting herself, her lips parted as his tongue slipped between them, his hand sliding down over her breast and down around her waist. Breaking away too soon for both of them, Nick backed away from Laura, his eyes looking deep into hers. "See you later, Lovebug," he said softly, smiling at her tenderly before turning and walking out of the kitchen. Nodding his head, he acknowledged everyone at the table before leaving. "Ladies, have a wonderful day. Happy wedding planning," he said, now opening Laura's front door, which was visible from the kitchen. He turned back and blew a kiss to Laura before walking out the door.

Laura sighed and giggled as she grabbed her glass of juice on the counter and pulled out an empty chair, sitting down. She sighed again and she propped her head up, resting on her hand. Attempting to get Nick out of her mind at least for a little while, she spoke up. "So, what about those wedding plans, huh?"

"Oh don't even think that we can concentrate on wedding plans NOW!" Leighanne said, giving Laura's arm a shove, causing her to sit up straight in her chair.

"What?? Why not??" Laura asked with a wink, knowing that they wanted details.

"Laura, you can't just not tell us what happened? I mean, besides the obvious," Cherie said winking back and giggling.

"I'm not sure what you mean, Cherie," Laura said, grabbing a notebook from Leighanne and paging through it, attempting to be non-chalant.

"Um, I'm sure you are sure what we mean, Laura," Misty said, tearing the notebook from her hands. "I mean, he was wearing the same clothes he came to pick you up in last night. I think that pretty much spells things out for us, we're not stupid."

Laura smiled wider and wider as the four other women waited for her to tell them. "Well, if you're sure you won't be bored by the details..." she teased, sticking out her tongue at them.

Frustrated, all four women yelled at Laura simultaneously. "TELL US!!" they urged, as Laura winked at them again.

"Oh all right..." she said as she began to tell what happened, starting with when Nick came to pick her up just a little over twelve hours before...

"...So that's when we went into my room, and... y'know..." Laura finished, blushing.

"Yeah, so what about the sex?" Leighanne asked, stunned that she even asked the question, but she wasn't the only one that was curious.

"Yeah, I mean, was he fast n' furious, or was he slow? Um, wait, he's twenty years old, of course he was fast," Misty said with a chuckle.

"Well, aside from giving you the details, I will tell you this," Laura said, as everyone leaned in eagerly. "He was..." Laura paused dramatically as she closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath, and opening her eyes again. "...sweet. Tender. Romantic. Passionate. Attentive. Sensual. Wonderful." Laura sighed as she closed her eyes again, picturing Nick, her lips still tingling from the kiss he gave her before he left.

"You sure we're talking about Nick Carter??" Misty asked, breaking Laura out of her trance. The other girls giggled as Laura smacked Misty on her arm, and hard. "OW!" she said, rubbing her arm.

"Serves you right," Teresa said, laughing at Misty. "But, I do have to admit, I've never known Nick to be romantic, or sensual, or anything else you said. At least he never displayed that much passion with Bec--um, well, 'you-know-who,'" she finished, shying away from saying Becky's name in Laura's presence. "Anyway, if those kisses he gave you right here in the kitchen are any indication of how last night was, then it couldn't have been anything but amazing!"

Laura sighed. "Amazing... yeah, amazing," she echoed, all five women now in a daydream state. And, when the clock chimed ten o'clock, all five women jumped, giggling at each other as they did so.

"Well, I'm glad you had a great time. So I guess it's safe to assume you'll be seeing more of Nick?" Cherie asked, as Leighanne gathered her things, everyone helping her as they stood up from the table.

"I think she's seen all of him, Cher," Misty said with a throaty laugh, and Teresa smacked her other arm. "OK, why is everyone beating up on me this morning?? Dammit!!" she said, rubbing her other arm. "I bruise easily, you know."

"Sucks to be Alex, then," Laura joked, running to hide behind Leighanne as Misty reached around her attempting to hit her back.

Leighanne jumped out of the way quickly, grabbing her things. "Oh no, you don't! Don't get me in the middle of this catfight. The last thing I need is any bruises before my big day!"

"Oh yeah, um, sorry we didn't get anything done this morning, Leigh," Laura said, walking with the girls as they headed for her door.

"I think we'll make an exception this time," Leighanne said winking at her, then giving her a hug. "I knew if you just gave him a chance, that you'd--"

"I know, I know," Laura said, interrupting her. Breaking their hug, Leighanne smiled at Laura before walking out the door. "Bye chicas!" she said, waving as they piled into Leighanne and Cherie's cars before driving off. As soon as they were out of sight, Laura's phone rang. Rushing back inside, she grabbed the phone. "Hello?" she asked, her breathing heavy from running into the house.

"I'm not even there and you're still breathing heavy," Nick said sexily, a low sensual laugh following. Laura smiled as she sat down on her couch, sinking into the cushions as she continued to talk to Nick.
