Add a flavour carrier to make your Boilies release their flavour better. Some are good for winter some for summer.
Flavour Carriers
Water
Ethyl Alcohol (winter) Buy it from pharmacy
Propylene Glycol
Glycerine (summer) Buy it from super market
Corn Syrup
Nut Oils (Just as much a flavour as a carrier)
Essential Oils
Essential Oils are extracted from plants.
They have a strong scent and are 100% natural. They are actually used in aroma therapy but will do no harm to the fish.
They are used as a flavouring in Boilies and also make Boilies easier to roll.
One of the best Essential Oils is Black pepper followed by Geranium, Garlic, Ylang-ylang, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon and Clove Oil.
Not all Essential Oils are good most are useless for bait, but the only way to find out
if one will work is to try it. Buy them from a health shop.
Use in very small amounts: 12-24 drops per 6 eggs
or add 10 ml of Oil to 200 Boilies.
Method
Put Boilies and Essential Oil into a plastic bag. Shake well and leave for one night and let them dry. You could soak your Boilies with flavouring in the same manner but with 20-30 ml of flavouring (per 200 Boilies).
Amino Acids
All amino acid does is make your Boilies more digestible to the fish. I think it's a good idea to add some. The only thing is, it's very expensive.
Flavour
Try to keep it natural and do not over do it, as it could just as easily repel fish.
Flavours that have worked for us are Banana, Tutti-Frutti, Pineapple, Caramel and Fish meal.
These flavours may not work for you, but experiment and find out what does.
Colour
In murky or muddy water use dark coloured Boilies. To darken your mix add some bisto or cacao powder. If you use light coloured Boilies in murky water they will spook the fish.
Use light coloured Boilies in clear water so that fish will be attracted from far away. Watch out, some birds may spot your light Boilies and will dive down and eat them.
