The Ritual Bath

The Bath is necessary for all Magical Arts; therefore, if you wish to perform any ritual, having arranged all things necessary, you should go to a river or running stream, or have warm water ready in some large vessel or tub and say:
"I exorcise thee, O Creature of Water, that thou cast out from thee all the impurities and uncleanlinesses of the Spirits of the World of Phantasm, so they may harm me not. In the names of (the Goddess) and (the God), so mote it be."

After this, take the Salt and/or Oils and bless them in this manner:
"Blessings be upon this Creature of Salt (Oil),
and let all malignity and hindrance be cast forth hence from,
and let all good enter herein.
Wherefore I bless thee and invoke thee, that thou mayest aid me.
In the names of (the Goddess) and (the God), so mote it be."

Taking the grains of the exorcised Salt (Oil), cast them into the Bath. Then make a sachet of appropriate herbs, and cast it into the Bath. Or you may combine the essential oils of the herbs with a virgin olive oil and add three drops of the mixture unto the bath. Or you may use Bath Salt instead of the individual combination of salt & herbs/oil. Light a white candle in your left hand, and sweet-smelling incense in the right. Pass them back and forth over the bath water, and say:
Bless and sanctify this Bath Water, so that it may be for the health and purification of my mind, my soul, and of my body. Grant unto me grace that I may be purified and regenerated from all my iniquities, so that I may have the power and strength to accomplish the desires of my heart. So mote it be.

Then disrobe, enter into the water or bath and cleanse yourself thoroughly. When you are perfectly pure, quit the Bath and clothe yourself in linen garments clean and white. The Companions (if any) should wash themselves in like manner, alternately female - male - female, High Priestess, High Priest, Maiden, Summoner, etc. That being done, go to the ordained place with your Companions (if any), and all things being prepared, make the Circle with all other necessary ceremonies.

Why Take a Moon Bath?

Bathing, in and of itself, is a cleansing action. Everyday we take a bath or shower to clean our bodies, but bathing also can cleanse the mind and the spirit, especially when ones day has been stressful.

Bathing is a great way to relax, wash away the day's stressors, meditate, or prepare for a special purpose or someone. But did you know that you could also gain access to certain astrological aspects through bathing?

Each zodiac sign has positive aspects that you can access through a Moon Bath. For example: If the Moon is in the sign of Cancer, then the aspects of that sign can help you to deal with issues, or gain a more positive attitude, especially regarding Self-Love, Home and Family.

Taking a Moon Bath that coordinates with the Sign the Moon is in, allows you to deal with issues and gain insight to possible problems, in a natural, relaxing, meditative state.

In other words, when it comes to issues and troubles, relax. Take a nice hot, aromatic bath and let the Moon and your Higher Mind do the work for you! Try it! You might be surprised at the results

Bath Salt Recipes

Bath Salts are an easily prepared alternative to bath herbs, and are to be preferred to the caustic mixtures now on the market; most of these chemical-ridden formulas are almost guaranteed to irritate your skin.

Creating Bath Salts

The basic ingredients are table salt, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) & Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate). Some herbalists also use borax. Add the salts to a large bowl in these proportions:

Mix thoroughly. This is now the base from which you can create a wide variety of bath salts.

Its wise to add the power of colors to bath salts. Use plain food coloring for this purpose, letting it fall drop by drop onto the salt base. If two or more colors are required to mix an exotic hue (such as purple), mix these in a spoon first and then add to the salts to avoid creating a two-toned product. Add many drops for a darker colored salt; fewer for a lightly hued salt. Mix the color into the salts with a spoon until it is evenly distributed.

Now add the essential oils drop by drop, one ingredient at a time, until the scent seems right. Mix with a spoon until all salt particles are moistened. (Could take 1/2 hour or more) As you mix, visualize the energies within the oils merging with each other and with the salt. Keep the salt's magickal goal in mind while you stir.

Empower the mixture. Use or store until needed.

As to proportions, rely on your nose to determine the exact quantities. The more potent the finished products' scent, the less will have to be used for each bath. They should be strongly scented.
To use, add from 2 tablespoons to one-half cup of the ritual bath salts to a full tub. Mix with your hands, feeling their energies merge with the water. While sitting in the tub, soak up the power. Allow yourself to receive it, or alternately, to release specific negative energies from yourself into the water.

Always keep tub clean. Ritual baths taken in unclean bathtubs won't have the desired effects!

When you are dealing with baths, you should never use more that ten drops of essential oil per half-cup of bath salts. In additions, you should only use genuine essential oils. If you can make them yourself, all the better.
