Holden's New York
The map links to different parts of the album. When it goes other maps,
such as the Central Park Zoo, they also link to parts
of the album.
(Of course, a few things are not accessible from the map:
1948 prep school ads,
trains,
checkers,
and
a (non-swanky) Seton Hotel.)
(The Dakota Apartments is where John Lennon was living and
where he was killed, in 1980 by Mark David Chapman (a loon who turned out
to be one of the millions of The Catcher in the Rye fans
but read a lot into the book). I marked a few other
places on the map for no special reason, just that I had recognized them
while doing the boring work of fixing up the map.)
Where Was the World Trade Center?
The map is based on a 1990 National Geographic map of New York City. However,
the locations
of the band shell and carrousel are based on a
map at
www.centralpark.com.
