Anne-Marie Danet

Anne-Marie Danet was born on the island of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands.  Her father, Pierre-Emile Danet, was a citizen of France, having been born on the French island of Saint-Barthelemy.

Anne-Marie's mother was born, Marie-Helene Bernier, on the Island of St. Thomas, during Danish times.

Anne-Marie Danet  received her formal education at Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Parish School.  In later years, she continued her education on the U.S. Mainland, where she also studied Journalism;  at the then College of the Virgin Islands (now U.V.I.), she studied Commercial Law.

Anne-Marie was married, at the age of 18 years, to Santiago Rivera-Vega. Two sons were born of the marriage but one son died in infancy.  Her remaining son, Santiago Rivera-Danet lives in Columbus, Georgia, where he is employed as a videographer by WLTZ-TV 38.

From an early age, the author, Anne-Marie Danet, began asking questions and gathering data about her French Heritage. She travelled to Martinique and Guadeloupe, even to Montserrat, in quest of her ancestors. Finally, Anne-Marie made several trips to Saint-Barthelemy, researching the archives for more historical facts about her ancestors and the ancestors of all the French immigrants to the Antilles. She requested and she received, from the French island of Guadeloupe, the genealogical family data of all the various families who had migrated to St. Thomas.

Having exhausted the research materials from other islands, Anne- Marie spent two years researching the archives at the Enid M. Baa Library on St. Thomas. But that was not all. Anne-Marie decided that she had to learn all about the original peoples of Europe, from whom the ancestors of the French Pioneers had been born.

After many years of rigorous research and data collecting, Anne- Marie was ready to go public with her findings.

She was given her first break by the Virgin Islands Daily News and after nearly eight years is still submitting articles about the French immigrants to that publication.

A few years ago, Anne-Marie decided to spread her wings and began submitting articles to the online publication, St. Thomas Source.

The author, Anne-Marie Danet, has been accorded honors and recognition by the French Government of Saint-Barthelemy and by the U.S. Virgin Islands Legislature.  For other literary works, Anne-Marie Danet was presented the Governor's Medal and Citation, for Excellence in the Literary Arts.
