Samuel Packwood I--Born in 1690 in Manchester, England and died in 1770 in Patrick County, Virginia. He married Penelope Elizabeth Scott in Patrick County, Virginia.
Samuel is believed to have been burned at the stake by the Shawnee Indians in 1770.
1. William--Born about 1735 in England and died in 1801 in New London, Connecticut. William and his brother Joseph owned ships and were members of a company that had storage warehouses in the colonial era. During the Revolutionary War, the British burned their warehouses.
2. John--Born in England. He was known to captain vessels on trips to West Indies. He died of yellow fever on one of his trips.
3. Joseph--Born about 1739 in England and died on April 15, 1807 in New London, Connecticut. Married Demise Wright in 1777. She was born in 1758 and died in 1839. Joseph served in the Continental Army as a Captain in Connecticut according to the DAR Patriot Index of 1966. Shows on the 1790 New London County, Connecticut census. Shows on the 1800 Colchester, New London Co, Conn. census. JOSEPH AND DEMISE HAD THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN: 1. Demise--born in 1779 and died in 1850. She married William Way in 1801. 2. Joseph Davis--Born about 1785 and married Harriet Smith 3. Sophia--Born in 1785 and died in 1868.
4. Samuel II---Born in 1745 in Patrick County, Virginia and died on July 25, 1824 in Patrick County, Virginia.He is buried in the Prillaman Cemetary near the Patrick/Franklin County line. He served in the Revolutionary War. On October 17, 1798 he owned 63 acres on the South side of the Smiths River, adjoining the Raves on Goblingtown Creek in Patrick County. He married a Judy Carter. He later married an Elizabeth P. Turner in 1769 in Patrick County. Elizabeth was born in 1750 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia and died on August 2, 1845 in Patrick County, Virginia. Elizabeth is also buried in the Prillaman Cemetary.

2. Exonia--Born in 1772 in Patrick County, VA and died on December 25, 1825 in Celina, Overton County, Tennessee. She is buried at the Home Place, Celina, Overton County, Tenn. (NOTE: A road now covers her original burial and it is not known if her grave was moved.) Married Valentine Gearhart on March 11, 1802. He died on December 26, 1835 in Celina, Overton County, Tennn. He is buried in Roberts Cemetary in Celina, Tenn.
