Happy Birthday (These are some of my hand-painted candle holders and my hand rolled candles) Here we are at the end of the first year and what a great year it has been (at least for my hair). I have been unemployed since September (In addition to looking for employment I have spent my time perfecting my skills at the things I enjoy doing, such as candles and soap- but I still love my hair! It has grown longer and I’ve gotten pretty used to taking care of it. The only thing that has been bothering me a little are the tri colors. I still get compliments when I go out but it doesn’t look that good to me when I try to put it in a pony tail or put it up on top of my head. Here’s a story about what happened to me just the other day. I decided I would look into getting the colors a little more in line. I contacted a couple of Locticians for referrals to a colourist. One referral was to a salon the name of which sounded errily similar to the shop that sent me running some 5 years ago (some things you just never forget). I decided against checking there and contacted the last cosmetologist I went to before I got my Sisterlocks. She has locs and so I figured she might be a good choice. When I called the shop where she worked I found that she no longer worked there. I had a bunch of old numbers so I finally was able to track her down and leave her a message on voice mail. She returned my call a couple of days later, even though my message stated that it was "important" that I speak with her. When she finally called me back she said that she could no longer take the "stuff" (my words not hers) at her old shop and had left. She had also been involved in a hit and run accident (not her fault) and was without her car. She had sustained several minor injuries but was now going out to people’s homes to do hair. That sounded fine with me so we made an appointment for 2 days from that day (she couldn’t come the next day cuz she just wasn’t feelin it) Anyway the appt was set for 3:00 and she was going to take the train and I would pick her up. Around 2:15 she phoned to say that her friend was taking her to pick up her car and that she would be driving over right after that. Well, I never saw her or heard from her that day or the next. Two days later she phoned to offer a feeble apology (she was just "out of it" after she picked up her car) but…. if I still wanted my color done she would be happy to come over! I just shook my head. Now I remember one of reasons I went natural!!! A friend was visiting me from Houston on the same day that this was happening and she told me that right before she left for her trip she called her beautician to make an appt and to confirm that she could get a wash and blow dry within a 2 hour time period since she had a plane to catch at 5:15. The beautician assured her that she could do it and she marched off to her appointment. Well needless to say she left the shop, hair undone @ 4:15, as her beautician munched on KFC and was heavily involved in deep conversation while doing the hair of a lady whose only destination was the fish market. My friend is now considering braids! She said she was surprised to see that the problem crossed state lines! I told her not to worry, it’s nothing personal So all that said. The pictures of me in this update are of me with my 3 colors in all their glory. When I told my daughter I was considering having the colors darkened a bit she asked me why and urged me to keep it just as it is. "You look different from everybody else" So I guess this is me - at least for now! After I took the pictures for the new year pages I decided to have the multi colored ends cut off instead of coloring the hair (a girl can change her mind). I have used NO chemicals and I'm totally natural. I have posted those pics at the end of the next page. Copyright
