GENEALOGICAL REFERENCE MATERIAL
I have compiled a list of a few genealogy sites on the web that I consider
to be among the best available. Some are subscription sites, others are public
domain. All, however, offer some great material, and are worth checking
out.
Ancestry.com
Subscription site that offers access to Census Records worldwide, as well
as Land Records, Birth, Death, and Marriage Records and more. They also have
a wonderful World Family Tree that has millions of gedcom files uploaded
by private family researchers. A great place to look for other researchers
that share your interests. Check out their surname message boards as well!
Rootsweb.com
A similar site to Ancestry, although as it is a non subscription site, it
does not have the multitude of records found at Ancestry.com. There are also
surname message boards located here.
FamilySearch Internet Genealogy
Service
LDS searchable database with millions of entries worldwide.
MyFamily.com
Genealogy.com
Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites
on the Internet
The BEST compilation of genealogical information on the web. Lists include
everything from Census sites, to Cemetery sites. If you can't find the
information you are looking for on this site, it probably isn't on the internet!!
The USGenWeb Project -
Homepage
Searchable database (Nationwide or Statewide) that offers transcribed records
for various counties and surnames. Many wonderful documents available to
search. This site is available ONLY because of the countless volunteers who
offer their time and energy to transcribe historical documents. If you have
any documents in your posession to offer, please consider doing so! Every
bit of information helps!
