We were able to get on the road to South Dakota a day early. We got as far as Wall, South Dakota before finding a hotel. The next day we visited the little city of Wall and had a great time. It is a wonderful little town in the middle of nowhere with alot of history. Wall Drug was founded in 1931 by Dorothy and Ted Hustead who attracted weary, thirsty travelers to their business by offering cold drinks of water. If you ever make the drive, plan to stop in Wall and take a few hours to see all the old shops filled with trinkets from the days when the West was won and tamed.
After leaving Wall, we spent the rest of the day touring the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. All of the sites were unique and very cool. It would have been nice to have another day, but we were Yellowstone bound and had to make the park by August 13 because we had reservations!
