World War I Propoganda - An archive of Posters and Journals
During WWI the citizens of Europe as well as America were blinded from the truth about war. They were shown by the media and government that war was going to be a valant and brave trip, as well as a romantic adventure. In a sense the people of the world, (the footsoldiers) were brainwashed from the horrors and deaths of 'The Real War'. Soon all the young men left their farms and homes to go fight for liberty and peace overseas, but unknown to almost all, that this 'adventure' would be an expericne full of stalemating, death, and decay. WWI was to say the least not what the world wanted or expected.
This site explores the other aspects of World War One, and gives you a different pair or two of shoes to stand in. So please, explore this site and enjoy the different prospectives of thought during and after 'The Great War', WWI. Women during WWI were not allowed to fight or even to be a feild medic, but it was seen as their duty to join the 'War on the home front', and be nurses or work in factories. The governments of the countries at war used strong propoganda to entice their female citizes to work in factories or do other such jobs at home and away from danger. In fact, their are as many propoganda war posters hoping for women to join in the effort as their are posters for new requits to join. The women of WWI played an intecrite role in the 'homefront' positions. They were nurses and for some savours for the thousands of wounded men. They also slaved and worked in factories all day to produce massive amounts of shells and war materials. It is a fact that women were as much important in the war as the men. For while an entire generation of males were overseas at war, the women filled the day-to-day positions and kept the economy going. To see some of the womens propoganda war posters click Here.
It is certian that World War I was not the war everybody expected it to be. Known as 'The Great War', it is now only remembered as a horrible vision of death, decay, and true evil. But as it is the human nature to cause conflict with each other, it is certian to us that this war, the 'War to end all wars', was not the glorous and romantic battle the ghosts of the dead soldiers wished it would have been. -Nolan Ragan
