Preparation

Make a list of people & institutions that need to be advised of your change of address
Decide which items you no longer need ( donate to charity / give away / garage sale )
Complete an inventory of all items in your house
Check those draws that are rarely used for important documents or useful receipts.
Use tape to secure keys to wardrobes inside the item of furniture
Decide which items you will, personally, pack . i.e jewellery, bonds, educational certificates and other small items of high monetary or sentimental value
Request us to deliver cartons and other packing material in advance for items you will - as above - pack yourself
Put your local telephone directory & Yellow Pages to one side for inclusion in your shipment, as it is often useful and sometimes necessary to contact people / businesses / organisations after your move from that area.
Advise your insurance company to transfer your household insurance policy to your new house
Return items you have borrowed and collect things you have lent to friends
Discontinue regular services like newspapers & window cleaning
Arrange for your satellite dish to be taken down
Over a period of weeks before moving use up your frozen and canned food stocks.
Have your rugs and curtains cleaned as it makes things easier when you get to your new home
The day before the move defrost, clean and thoroughly dry your refrigerator
