October's Question

If Lou was one of your favorite riders, what was it about her that drew your liking to her character? And what do you admire most about her?

Well, I formost admired her stamina! Now there was a lady who wasn't afraid to take a chance in a "man's" world and get a decent job for herself. I liked how she could be tough, but then turn around and be so gentle. Also, she was the kind of lady who wasn't afraid to get dirt on her face! :-)

I really enjoyed Lou's character, because she was the only female (save Emma and Rachel), and I was always interested in how differently she would react to a particular situation. I liked her storylines with Kid and Jimmy, but I also liked watching her hold her own. One of my favorite episodes is "Bad Blood" where Lou goes to visit her brother and sister and finds them kidnapped by their father. The episode is so well written and well acted, and it shows many different sides of Lou -- all of them admirable! Of course, seeing the guys' reaction to finding out she's a girl is pretty cool too ;)

I would have to say Lou's appeal to me stemmed from the very complex and seemingly parodoxical blend of her strength and vulnerability. I never had any doubt that Lou could take care of herself, but every once in awhile she would falter. It was during these trials that I found her most fascinating as I watched her struggle with her desire to be strong and the need to lay her load on some one else's shoulders. I only wish we'd gotten to see Lou's character develop even more.

What do I like about Lou!!!!! Well --- to use the vernacular of that time - She has spunk/sand/grit ---- she knows what she wants and goes about getting it. She wants to take care of her family and she needs to work - Ladies work doesn't bring in much money -- so she goes for something that pays better! Riding the Mail! She may be small in stature - but she has a big heart and you don't mess with the people she loves!

I loved Lou because of her stubborness to fight the odds of the time. She had a tender side, and a tough side. I think that she was brave to take on such a job in that time period........especially with what she had to fight against. Most of all, I loved seeing how she handled all the guys. :-)
