Part Two of Three: -
Lawson quickly ran her fingers through her hair, then opened the hotel room door. Without giving the guy so much of a chance to open his mouth and utter a word, Lawson had grabbed Spender by his tie, and dragged him into the room. Then, on tippy toes, Lawson reached up to plant a firm kiss on Spender's mouth. She quickly kicked the door close, and turned her attention to Spender's choice of attire.
"You are such a suit, Jeffrey Frank Spender!" Lawson shook her head as she eyed her partner up and down, "Always a jacket, always a tie ... boy, it's about time you learnt to loosen up a little!" Lawson made her way to the bedside table and the bottle of champagne.
Spender didn't budge an inch from where he stood. He couldn't help but stare at Lawson. He'd seen her plenty of times now, in her sleepwear and underwear, and it always amazed him when he did see her like that, and in less, that she was finally his. His after years of secret longing and dreaming. Sometimes, Spender would often wonder if it was still nothing more than a dream.
"Jeffrey!" Lawson's sweet voice cut through Spender's thoughts. She was holding out a glass of champagne to him. Spender blinked a few times, then grinned and took the glass. Lawson smiled at Spender and raised her glass, "Here's to us!" she said simply, but full of meaning, "Always." She let her glass clink lightly against that of Spender's. He softly repeated 'always', then boldly drew Lawson into his arms, careful not to spill any of his drink on her. "You're so cute!" Spender then told Lawson as he nuzzled her neck.
"Cute? Is that all I am? Geez, thanks partner!" Lawson began to giggle, then she gave a small shriek as Spender unintentionally allowed the contents of his champagne flute to dribble down her back.
"Oh man!" Lawson commented a little disgustedly, "What a waste of perfectly good alcohol! Thank God there's another bottle of the stuff!"
"Alcohol? Is that all you're worried about?" Spender then dared with a cheeky grin, "If that's the case, then maybe I shouldn't have come here!" He then turned away from Lawson as if he was getting ready to leave the room.
"Fine!" Lawson replied, playing along with the game, "If you see Mulder in your travels" she patted the bed nearest to her, "tell him I'm waiting!" Lawson then winked, removed the summer nightgown and sat down on the bed. She couldn't help but giggle at the strange look on Spender's face. Lawson then picked up a pillow, and hurled it a Spender. "I'm only joking!" she assured the young man softly, "You know that!" Spender suddenly grinned, "Yeah, I know" he then commented, practically leaping onto the bed, causing the innersprings to ping and contract in protest at this unexpected move.
The subtle bouncing of the bed threw the young couple closer together. Like a pair of starry eyed teenagers on a first date, they stared in silence at each other. Then as they leant their heads even closer, and were just about to kiss, there came a loud knock at the door, and a voice called out - "Room service!"
Lawson frowned, then stared at Spender again. "I didn't order any room service, it must be a mistake."
Spender grinned, quickly kissed Lawson on a cheek and got up from the bed. "No mistake" he told her looking at his wristwatch. Spender then made his way to the door of the hotel room, and with a quick glance over a shoulder he said, "Cover your eyes, and no peeking!"
Lawson began to giggle, then covered her face with her hands. First she heard muffled whispering, the room door closing, then she heard a sound like one of the service trolleys being wheeled in. Next Lawson heard Spender's voice call out loudly and cheerfully, "Surprise! You can look now!"
Lawson slowly uncovered her eyes and gave a little squeal of delight. On the service trolley before her, was an incredible looking cake surrounded by several small vases of freshly cut roses. Balloons attached by long streamers to the handles of the trolley floated and bobbed colourfully in the air, and best of all, Spender stood there with a small package on the flat of his palm.
"Happy birthday, Bindi" Spender said softly with a slight blush as he handed the small package to the slightly stunned looking young woman.
Lawson stared at Spender a few minutes before taking the package from him.
"You've already given me my present" Lawson told Spender as he sat back down on the bed, "Not to mention the beautiful flowers and the cake ... the champagne ... "
Spender put a finger to Lawson's lips to silence her. "Can't a guy spoil his girl every once in a while?"
Lawson blushed this time, smiled shyly and turned her attention back to the small package.
Lawson removed the wrapping of the package to reveal a small red velvet covered box.
She looked to Spender, "What's this?" she asked him, indicating the box.
"Open it and see" said Spender simply, with yet another cheeky grin. He sat closer to Lawson, and gently began to twirl a lank of her long black hair around a finger.
Lawson flicked the box open, gave a gasp of shock and delight, and turned to Spender with wide eyes. "Oh my God, Jeffrey" she then began, fishing the contents out of the box for a better look, "This must have cost you a small fortune!"
"I'm good for it, and you're worth it" said Spender, pushing one of Lawson's bra straps over a shoulder, then leaning down to smother it with soft wet kisses.
Lawson gave a soft sigh, and pushed the new ring, an engraved gold band with a solitaire diamond, onto the finger next to the ring her father had given her.
As she held out her hand to gaze at both rings, Lawson gave another sigh. "Oh Jeffrey" she then commented, as Spender boldly attacked her other shoulder, "This is the best birthday ever!"
"So does that mean you like the ring? Spender asked eagerly, Lawson's shoulders forgotten for the moment.
"Of course I do!" assured Lawson, kissing Spender on the tip of his nose, "I love it! It's beautiful, incredible ... you're incredible!" She reached out to take Spender in her arms.
"Do you know what it means?" Spender then asked Lawson a little mysteriously as he snuggled against her.
"It has meaning?" Lawson smiled, "Really? Do tell!"
"Well" Spender began, "The circle is endless, it goes on forever. The diamond is the strongest of all the precious stones, so ... " Spender paused, gave a shy smile. Then fending off a potential rib poking from Lawson he continued, "so the ring basically means that what we have is strong and precious and will last forever ... and ... "
Spender took Lawson's hand, gently kissed the ring he'd given her, and whispered, "You've got it on the wrong hand."
Lawson stared at Spender incredulously, then started a little unsurely, "Are you trying to say what I think you're trying to say ... ?"
Spender nodded his head, gave a shy smile, "Yes ... but we can't let anyone know yet, it could cause problems."
"Hmmm ... " Lawson gazed dreamily at the ring, "True, especially with Mulder! This'll be our little secret, for now. Oh, and in case you're wondering ... yes, I will!" Lawson grabbed Spender by his tie, and pulled him even closer to her, "Now get your gear off" she then whispered in a sexy voice, "we have double the reason to celebrate tonight!"
Lawson let go of Spender's tie, and the guy got off the bed and started towards the bathroom.
"Jeffrey!" Lawson called after her partner, "Just where the heck do you think you're going?"
Spender paused in front of the bathroom door and gave Lawson a sheepish grin. "I'm going to get changed."
Without another word, Spender then disappeared into the bathroom, firmly closing the door behind him.
Lawson grinned and shook her head. Spender was only acting a little strange because of the simple fact that Lawson was supposed to be sharing this particular room with Dana Scully. If it had been their room, and only their room, Spender wouldn't have had any objections to disrobing in front of the young woman ... and being her birthday, as well as their engagement, he might even had put on a little show.
Spender reappeared mere moments later, a hotel bath towel hanging loosely on his lean hips. When suited for work, Spender often appeared too lanky, scrawny even. His clothes would hang loosely from his thin frame. Out of his suits, Spender was in fact very lean and muscular. The biceps in his arms showed just how much he worked out, and his stomach was hard and flat. Weedy looking Jeffrey Spender was far from weedy ... he was extremely fit, very athletic, a finely tuned machine.
Spender firmly gripped the towel at one side, and made his way back to Lawson who was topping up their glasses with more champagne. As he sat down on the bed, he remembered back to when he first knew Lawson. Remembered the times he would go to her father's house for meals, especially when his mother was gone, the times they would spend sitting on her bed watching television or just talking about anything and everything. Spender couldn't believe how times had changed. Now when he got onto a bed with Lawson, it was to do more than watch TV or chat. Spender blushed at the thought, and at that moment, he felt like the luckiest guy in the world. Here he was, with the girl he'd loved since the moment he first laid his eyes on her, the girl of his dreams, his partner in more ways than one ... the woman who'd just consented to be his bride.
Spender gave a dreamy sigh and laid down on the bed. He stared at the ceiling of the room, a goofy grin on his face. He took the offered flute of champagne from Lawson in silence, then sighed again, the grin broadening on his face.
"What are you grinning at, boy?" Lawson placed her own champagne on the bedside table, and laid down next to Spender. Spender looked at Lawson from the corner of an eye, then raising himself up on his elbow, he turned on his side towards her.
"Just thinking" her told her, the grin never leaving his face.
"About what?" Lawson asked softly, her fingers tracing the contours of Spender's face.
"Us" replied Spender simply, reaching out to brush a stray hair from Lawson's eyes.
"What about us?" Lawson leant forward to kiss Spender's cheek.
"Oh!" began Spender, still in a dreamy frame of mind, "About how we're really together now, and I never thought we would be." He lightly returned Lawson's kiss.
"Well" it was Lawson's turn to give a goofy grin, "It could have happened sooner, but I was a little shy at the Academy ... "
"Shy?" Spender started tickling Lawson, "You had all the guys after you!"
"Yeah, maybe" Lawson giggled and wriggled, "There was only one guy I was interested in, and he acted like I didn't exist! Well ... not exactly, we became very good friends, and never once did he put the moves on me, and I really wanted him too! If I hadn't had been so shy back then, I would have been all over you like the plague! Why didn't you ever come onto me ... tell me that ... "
"Oh, shut up, Bindi!" Spender laughed good-naturedly, "You talk too much!"
Spender pulled Lawson into his arms, and bathed her neck in kisses.
"I was shy back then too. I wasn't exactly popular. You where the Senator's daughter, everyone wanted to be your friend."
"That's not true!" Lawson insisted as Spender returned to kissing her neck, "You're forgetting about the ones who thought I only got into Quantico because of my father."
"I'm sorry" whispered Spender genuinely, "I didn't mean to offend."
Lawson smiled and forgave him with a long lingering kiss. "Now" she wanted to know again, "Why didn't you ever put the moves on me, huh?"
Spender gave a half-smile, "I was shy ... and I thought if I did try anything, you'd only reject me ... "
"Reject you? Never!" Lawson pulled away from Spender to look into his face, "We became friends didn't we? Very, very close friends. I'm so glad we became friends at the Academy, so glad we were made partners. Every minute I spend with you, makes me realise that for along time you where the one thing missing out of my life. With you, I'm complete ... I need you ... " Lawson trailed off, then leant forward and hungrily pressed her lips against Spender's, "I want you ... no more talk ... let's do something else ... "
Spender got the subtle message, and slowly pushed Lawson's bra straps over her shoulders. His hand slipped around her back, and he began to fumble for the clasp of the bra.
Suddenly Lawson began to giggle. "Oh my God! Jeffrey!" she almost gagged, "What are you trying to do? That tickles! Stop it!"
"I'm not trying to tickle you!" Spender insisted as he continued to fumble for the nonexistent clasp.
"Like hell!" sniggered Lawson, trying to wriggle out of Spender's grasp.
"Honest, Bindi!" Spender insisted with another ticklish fumble, "I'm .... " he blushed slightly, "I'm trying to find the clasp!"
"Jeffrey!" Lawson suddenly pushed a bewildered Spender away from herself, and sat up. Then indicating the front of her bra, she giggled, "It's right here! Come and get it ... if you can!" She then leapt of the bed and dashed to the other side of the room. Spender shook his head at Lawson, and grinned. He then got up from the bed himself, keeping a firm grip on the towel as he did so. Slowly Spender made his way towards Lawson who taunted him by wiggling her hips, flicking her hair and blowing him kisses.
Lawson allowed Spender to get almost close enough to reach out and grab her, then she quickly skipped past him and leapt back onto the bed. She smiled cheekily and waved at Spender. Spender turned around, and slowly made his way back to the bed. He stared at Lawson who continued to act teasingly.
So caught up in each others antics were they, that the young couple failed to notice the sound of a key entering the door lock, and then the door slowly creak open. They were also deaf to the sound of voices whispering rather loudly outside the slowly opening door.
As Spender approached the bed, he decided to be a little daring, and he allowed the bath towel to slip from his firm grip. It was itchy after all. Lawson's eyes went wide, and as her fingers went to the clasp at the front of her bra, she suddenly gave a shriek of shock and scrabbled for the bedclothes which she hastily pulled up to her chin. Spender gave Lawson a puzzled look. She'd never reacted that way before when she saw him naked!
"What?" Spender then asked. Lawson gagged, pointed to the doorway, then threw a pillow at Spender. Spender gave Lawson another puzzled looked, then he slowly turned in the direction that Lawson was indicating.
Spender's face went as white as a sheet. Standing in the doorway of the hotel room, where Mulder, Scully and that new Agent John Doggett. Scully had her eyes covered, while the two men stared at Spender in shock and disgust.
"Oh geez! Spender!" Mulder suddenly coughed, "Put some pants on! You're gonna blind us with all that whiteness!"
Spender stared at Mulder, momentarily frozen to the spot. Then unable to think of anything else to do, he lifted the bedclothes at the foot of the bed and climbed under.
"Oh my God!" Spender suddenly wailed from beneath the bedclothes, "This is not happening, this is not happening!"
Spender remained hidden undercover while Lawson scolded the two men and the red-haired woman for their blatant invasion of privacy.
"Fox Mulder!" the annoyed young woman began, "Do you mind? This is a private party, or haven't you noticed?" Lawson then glared at Doggett, "John, I would have thought you'd at least show Jeffrey and I a little respect ... not to mention you, Dana! Now get out of here, the three of you!" Lawson then lifted the bedclothes, and spoke softly to Spender. "It's okay, honey" she told the clearly embarrassed young man, "Come here."
Spender gave Lawson a weak smile, then he surfaced from beneath the covers. Like Lawson, Spender pulled the bedclothes up to his chin. He wore a sheepish and embarrassed expression on his face, and avoided looking at Mulder who grinned at him.
Lawson glared at Mulder again, "Do you mind?" she snapped.
Mulder shook his head slowly and annoyingly commented, "No, not at all." He continued to grin at Spender and Lawson, amazed at just how red Spender's face was becoming.
"Hey" Mulder spoke, addressing Lawson, "You'd better do something about lover boy before he pops a blood vessel!" Mulder then stepped towards the bed, and leant across to flick Spender on the forehead.
"Ow!" Spender protested, rubbing his forehead, "What the heck was that for?"
"Because you annoy me" Mulder replied oafishly, "and because I felt like it."
"Mulder!" Lawson's brown eyes were blazing, "Leave Jeffrey alone, and get the heck out of here, all of you ... please!"
Doggett and Scully apologised, quickly left the card they'd brought for Lawson on top of the mini bar, and just as quickly scampered from the room together ... suspiciously looking like they were holding hands as they departed.
