Internet Department The Internet department was established in October 1997, after having received a donated computer from the USIS. This was to provide vast information required by students to get to universities and colleges abroad using the CD-ROM facilities and the E-mail services. The idea grew until the time when the need for a public internet access arose. The department now offers a 8- hour-public Internet Access Point, currently with 21 PC's networked. We are known in Bulawayo to be cheapest Internet Access providers, with our minimum charge of Z$150 per minute for the first 15 minutes for Library members and Z$200 thereafter, for non-members a Z$200 charge per minute is effective for all internet time bought. Printing per A4 page costs Z$2 500 and document or photo scanning costs Z$2 500 per A4 - how is that for a start?. The service has alleviated the work load on the Reference Department, since people can now use the Internet to browse for information. Other services offered in the same department are :- Audio Book catalog, Braille catalog, CD-ROM Encyclopaedias, CD-ROM Atlas, CD-ROM Educational facilities which include the Peterson's College Selection Guide - the Grad-Search and the College Source. All this has helped students who need to study abroad and with the e-mail facilities at hand, they can now correspond directly with the Universities of their choices at an affordable rate. |
