Coach Mike Settle's Lincoln County Patriots opened their season with a 35-30 loss to Washington County. Patriot QB Trey Edwards threw for 232 yards. Fr. Jerril Alcorn showed promise with 63 yards on five carries.
Coach Mike Harmon's Tates Creek Commodores lost 31-14 to Campbell County last week. Bright spots for Tates Creek was Chris Kemplin who completed eight of 15 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. Speedy RB Jontez Jones gained 106 yards and a touchdowns on the ground.
Lincoln County pulled to within eight, 21-13, early in the third quarter but Tates Creek pulled away for a 34-13 victory. This gave Coach Harmon his first victory as the Commodores head coach and his 50th career victory.
Tates Creek recorded 17 first downs and 395 yards of total offense. The Commodores were penalized three times for 74 yards and lost four fumbles. Lincoln County recorded 14 first downs and 295 yards of total offense. The Patriots were penalized four times for 44 yards, lost a fumble, and had two passes intercepted.
Rozell James led the Tates Creek ground attack with 82 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Jontez Jones carried the ball 12 times for 78 yards and a TD. Tyler Love recorded 58 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Chris Kemplin completed 15 of 24 passes for 167 yards one touchdown. Cam Ruddell caught four passes for 90 yards. Rozell James added three receptions for 43 yards. Joe Conlon led the defense with eight solo tackles. Alan Beatty added seven solo and two assisted tackles. Jacob Kodel recorded six solo and one assisted tackles with 2.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totalling 13 yards. Damon Boggs recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass.
Jerril Alcorn led the Lincoln County ground game with 60 yards and a TD on eight carries. Julian Calhoun carried the ball seven times for 40 yards. Trey Edwards completed eight of 17 passes for 120 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Robin Conaster caught four passes for 42 yards. Julian Calhoun caught two passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. Robin Conaster led the defense with six solo and three assisted tackles. Matt Carrier and Skyler Gilber each recorded four solo and three assisted tackles.
