Athame:
This tool is linked with the element of air. It is used in rituals to direct energy. It is a tool of power and manipulation. It has a double-edged blade which is usually dull. The handle of the athame is black or some other dark color that absorbs power and is usually engraved with magickal symbols. An athame with a white handle is only used for cutting (i.e. herbs) and carving.
Cauldron:
The cauldron is a symbol of the Goddess. It correspond to the element of water. It is a small, black, cast iron pot with three legs. It can be used in rituals as a container (i.e. for flowers, herbs, charcoal, incense, potions, and many other magickal things. Some witches also use them for scrying. They fill them with water on Samhain night and use them to "gaze into the future or past".
Wand:
The wand corresponds to the element of air. It is an instrument of invocation. It is sometimes used to direct energy, to scratch magickal symbols on the ground or to stir the contents of a cauldron. Wands are usually made out of willow, elder, oak, hazel or apple wood but any piece of wood will do.
Censer:
The censer represents the element of air. It can be a big, swinging metal contraption like those used in a church, a small wooden stick incense holder or simply a small bowl filled with salt or sand. In short, all it is, is an incense holder.
Chalice:
The chalice represents the element of water. It symbolizes the Goddess and fertility. In rituals, it can be used to hold the ritual wine or can be used for scrying.
Broom:
The broom represents the element of water. It is often used to purify space before a circle is cast. It is also used in many water spells involving cleansing.
*Tools should be consecrated or cleansed, before used in a circle to clear them of any negative energies.
