Welcome to America, where you can spend as much money as you can!

If you have a desire of spending money "like there is no tomorrow" in Vietnam, you have come to the right place: America!

Well, just to pass around our own experience. When we first came here, we all go spend money crazily on personal stuff. You know, starting our own life, too many things out there to buy: clothes, bicycle (or car), food, pillow, notebooks, blanket, detergent, etc.

The problem is: our monetary system in our minds hadn't been converted into American $$$ system. So sometimes we don't have the picture in minds how much $20 is. When I first landed at LA airport, I bought a calling card of $20 and enthusiastically called home. Guess what, "You have 4 minutes remaining", the soft voice from AT&T got me out of the dream, back to reality. Believe me, you can easily call home for at low at 90 cents a minute (connection charges may vary.)

Another problem is: credit/debit card spending. Shopping with credit/debit card in US has been made so easy that even you have received tons of lectures about how to use credit card efficiently, you still can easily fall in the trap of credit/debit card spending. USNews has an article on this, read it here.

So, our advice is: wait a while until you have settled down (say, 2- 3 months) to go shopping for your own life. If you really need something, ask around to make sure you know where to go for the lowest price, highest quality.
