Most of the senior staff join the President for a quick trip to Portland while Leo stays behind to deal with a situation in the Gulf.

Thanksgiving brings: the President deals with illegal Chinese immigrants, C.J. chooses a turkey, Charlie must find the right knife & Leo opposes Toby's recommendation of Leo's sister for a place in the administration.

As a NASA space probe descends on Mars, the Russians deny they have a fire in a nuclear missile silo, C.J. & Sam have to confront people they are avoiding, and Josh must make a decision about a stamp.

Josh is forced to confront his post traumatic stress symptoms as he discusses his actions and reactions during the weeks preceding Christmas.
2-11 #33 "The Leadership Breakfast" (January 10, 2001)
The staff deal with their Republican rivals from the Congress before and after a bi-partisan breakfast.
2-12 #34 "The Drop-In" (January 24, 2001)
While Sam writes a rousing speech on the environment, Toby plans to ruin it with a 30 second "drop-in" comment. Meanwhile, Leo tries to sell the President, and anyone who will listen, on a missile defense system.

President Bartlet gives a rousing State of the Union Address to Congress and then things start to fall apart - Con't to #36.

Right after the State of the Union, President Bartlet and his staff have to deal with the numerous problems including a hostage situation in Colombia.

Everybody is being held up by one lone Senator who won't give up his fight --- eventually, the staff figures out why.
2-18 #40 "17 People" (April 4, 2001)
Toby knows there is something going on that he doesn't know. Finally, Leo tells the President that they have to tell Toby about the MS.
2-19 #41 "Bad Moon Rising" (April 25, 2001)
The President and Leo consult the White House Chief Counsel about whether hiding the MS constitutes fraud on the American public.
2-20 #42 "The Fall's Gonna Kill You" (May 2, 2001)
The rest of the President's senior staff are informed of the MS and each of them deals with it in his/her own way.
2-21 #43 "18th and Potomac" (May 9, 2001)
While the President, his staff, and his wife deal with various crises, Mrs. Landingham buys a new car and that ends up causing the worst devastation of all.
2-22 #44 "Two Cathedrals" (May 16, 2001)
President Bartlet is feeling like the Biblical Job and wonders what he's done wrong to be punished so badly.
