A few words about us

ABOUT US

This site was created in 1999 by Johan Goeminne, Melanie Fazi (words & research) and Joakim Gleisner (design) and is currently run and updated by Melanie Fazi. Don't hesitate to E-mail us if you have any questions or if you feel that you have something to contribute to the site!

(And please make sure that the subject line of your mail is obvious enough not to end up in the trash can by mistake, given the enormous quantity of junk mail we frequently receive...)

A FEW WORDS ABOUT...

JOHAN GOEMINNE
I live in Belgium and I have been collecting and enjoying music for many years. In Brussels you can find some really nice second-hand/collectors record and cd shops. We also have great bands like dEUS, Zita Swoon and Mitsoobishy Jacson. (the new band of M. Pawlowski).

It all started at the end of the seventies when I started listening to some punk bands. I still love the Buzzcocks and Subway Sect. The first time I was really impressed by a band was when I saw a concert of Magazine in 1979. Try to listen to the Secondhand Daylight album. It's still a classic!!!

... Through the years I listened to a thousand new bands. I can say I have a 'big' record/CD collection. It contains some records I am a bit embarrassed of. Yes I once bought an album of Simple Minds, yes I realised that band X was not really my cup of tea but I'm proud I discovered many years ago bands on the Postcard label, the Go Betweens, the Triffids, Julian Cope and Teardrop Explodes, Blackeyed Susans and other brilliant artists.

Today I'm a big Sparklehorse fan and I'm absolutely mad about PJ Harvey and John Parish. Some people call me a 'PJ maniac' because I collect every single item of Polly and John I can find. The truth is I'm a 'Polly and John' freak in a healthy way... What I mean is I like them very, very much, I think they are the most talented people I know, but I realise they are just people of flesh and blood. John is not God, Polly is not the Goddess... They make brilliant music and are working with other great artists.

I really hope you are enjoying this John Parish site. It was a pleasure to work together with Melanie and Joakim. They both did a very good job. I want to thank John for all the help.

We tried to give you some info about John Parish, now it's time to listen to his music.

Please don't hesitate to contact us for more information or comments. We want to hear something from you!!

MELANIE FAZI
My turn now... I was born in the north of France in November '76 and moved to Paris twenty years later. I still live and work there (and spend most of my time in the best venues of the City of Lights). I am currently trying to find work as a professional translator (I'm a regular collaborator of French magazine Ténèbres, specialized in horror and fantasy and I've just started working for publishers) and I have also published a few stories of my own. Another old dream of mine was to become a critic, especially a rock critic, which led me to create a fanzine called Electric Light with Joakim. A lot of fun and a lot of work too.

Just like Johan, I am a notorious PJ Harvey fan (though I do not have enough space in my tiny flat to collect as many records as he does). I gradually became interested in all the members of the band, and notably John Parish. I saw the band live several times in '98 and was lucky enough to talk to John a couple of times (too briefly, I must say).

Other favourite bands and artists of mine include Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Tarnation, The Go-Betweens (I met Robert Forster and Grant McLennan once, a pretty strange experience), dEUS, The Pixies, Calexico, Sonic Youth, Elysian Fields, Lisa Germano... If you want to find out about the (many) others, why not have a look at Electric Light. Almost everything is in there.

It so happens that the only time I ever met Johan in the flesh was at a John Parish gig in Bruges, when John and his band performed the soundtrack from Rosie. Johan had been thinking of creating a page to display his many pictures and articles about John Parish, Joakim and I had already created our own site... And so we became partners in crime.

Just before handing over to Joakim, I wish to thank John Parish for his help and his kindness.

JOAKIM GLEISNER
Hello. I'm 23 years old, I live in the town of Uppsala, Sweden, and my most striking characteristic is my inability to meet biography deadlines. If you want to know more, please contact me on mememe@ego.com
