Story of Lee
This story is about my Step Father, a man that entered our lives after we were all grown, but we still cared about him as if he was our Father.. He loved my Mother very much, so much that he would have done anything in the world for her...
On one evening after a long day of working on the car, which you could say was kind of a hobby to him and what he did for a living... he decided to take a short walk to the store to get some gas for the lawn mower and though it was summer time and the evenings got dark at a later hour it soon became night... he got his gas and a few other things and began to return home... but he didn't make it home...
I'm not sure, but it seemed liked an hour or two had passed and we were wondering what was taking him so long to get back when it wasn't but 4 or 5 blocks from the house to the store... I remember hearing sirens as I looked towards my Mother and saw the chills run through her, we both knew something was wrong... only moments later was a hard knock at the door, it was the police... my mother turned white as the police told her what had happened.. everything after that was a blur...
He was crossing the main street to come home as a car driven with teenagers between 15 to 17 turned from the intersection and gained high speed within the half block range to where the store was, not seeing him so they said.. even though he had light colored clothing and we know he didn't just walk out in front of them... they just weren't coherent enough... They didn't even stop, just kept on going and didn't turn them selves in until 3 days later, long enough to get Drugs or Alcohol out of their system and their stories to match... They told police they thought they hit a box, believe me if your not drunk or on drugs you know the difference... as you can see they got off easy... a smack on the hand...
Though now when I look back, they really did get punishment and I feel for them, for they have to live out the rest of their lives Knowing that they needlessly ended the life of another being... Killed his future and life with his family in one single moment of time...
Something I wouldn't wish on anyone...
