The now defunct Veruca Salt out of Chicago, Illinois made a name for themselves by successfully combining heavy rock and hard riffs with sweet melodies and beautiful lyrics. They take their name from the girl in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory who always wanted more.
Veruca Salt were:
Nina Gordon - vocals, guitar
Louise Post - vocals, guitar
Steve Lack - bass, guitar
Stacy Jones - drums
Nina's elder brother, Jim Shapiro previously played drums for the band, however, this was always a temporary arrangement.
Veruca Salt released 2 full-length albums, 'American Thighs' and 'Eight Arms To Hold You' in their short career and will be sorely missed by music lovers everywhere. The band split up in March of 1998 due to Nina leaving the band, reportedly as the result of conflict between Louise and herself, possibly over a man.
Latest word has it that Louise is continuing on the band under the name Veruca Salt while Nina is working on her first solo album titled 'Tonight And The Rest Of My Life' which will be out in the near future.
Long live Veruca Salt.
And my little NEWSFLASH- rumour has it that Veruca Salt may be getting back together, with both Nina and Louise reuniting and not simply Louise carrying on under the Veruca Salt name. Cross fingers!
