Appliqued the interior fat "x" shape onto background. Next appliqued the side "crater" shapes onto background. Machine pieced the "cut off" corners.

Used two colored fabrics. Appliqued background fabric onto interior colored fabric. Hand pieced remaining corner seams. Appliqued outer melon shapes.

Hand pieced and appliqued the pie shapes in the middle. Redrafted the outer semi-circles making them slightly smaller to avoid being caught in the seam.
