Fire Apparatus - Ladders

Welcome to page three of the ladder section of my site. Just click the "Back" button to return to the previous ladder page or "Back to Fire Apparatus" for the beginning of the fire pages. There are a lot of image thumbnails that load pretty quick, but take a moment to read the text as they load. Last updated July 8, 2002

This beautiful KME 102' tower belongs to the North Charleston (SC) fire department as seen here at Charleston AFB in South Carolina.

Supthan appears to be the engine of choice for the Orlando Fire Department in Orlando, Florida. This 1996 Supthan, 95' ladder is assigned to Station 1 in downtown Orlando. Note the large lizard above the engine, equipped with bunker gear and SCBA.

One of Orlando, Florida's newest towers is this 2000 Supthan, 95' ladder seen here out front of Station 10 located near Universal Studios.

Ocean City, MD is the toursit resort on the Atlantic. Due to all the highrises and condos, Ocean City Fire Department has this 1997 E-One assigned to the northern most station of the three located along the beach and on Highway 1.

Engine 711 is a 1983 Pierce Arrow, 85' snorkel which is assigned to the main station in Ocean City, MD.

Just outside of Conshohocken, PA is Plymouth TWP. If the sun hits their trucks at a high angle the apparatus almost look black since the blue is do dark. Plymouth has this great looking 1993 Pierce stick with a 105' ladder.

Also in the Plymouth Fire Company's stable is this very nice 1999 Pierce squrt with a 50' boom. Check out their rescue/pumper and pumper on the applicable pages of this site.

Rehoboth Beach, DE and station 86 are home to this 1995 Simon-Duplex 102' LTI ladder. I think the blue trim on white looks great on this piece of apparatus. Rehoboth Beach has two stations, one downtown where the 1964 Pirsch (on the antique page) is housed and another station along Highway 1 where this ladder is stationed.

Relief Fire Company is the owner of this 1999 Pierce Lance 100' tower that was used to take the pictures of the Burlington TWP, NJ fire companies seen on the Jersey pages. Relief if one of the fire companies in the township.

In the "Chicago" style paint scheme is this very sharp 1995 Sutphen 100' tower belonging to the Rohrerstown Fire Company just west of Lancaster, PA. Check out their pumper with the same paint scheme.

Back in the early day when I was a young guy, I was stationed in Sanford, Florida. They didn't have anything as nice as this 1981 FMC/Oskosh as they have in this image. That's an 85' LTI ladder on the FMC/Oskosh truck. I did not know that Oskosh made regular trucks. This was a first for me.

Station 44, Citizen's Hose Fire Company in Smyrna, DE is the proud owner of this deep red 100' ladder seen here in the state fire convention parade in Dover, Delaware.

Not to be confused with Salisbury, NC, Salisbury, MD is just south of the Delaware stateline. Ladder 1 is assigned to the downtown station and is a 1980 Mack with a ALF 100' ladder. The city's engines are normally red, but because of the high cost of repainting the engine it remains in it's previous owner's original yellow colors.

Newest on the force is this 2001 American LaFrance (ALF) Metropolitan seen here at Station 2 located on the north end of Salisbury, MD.

Salisbury, NC is located northeast of Charlotte. Ladder 1 is a 95' E-One assigned to the main station.

Still hanging in there is this old American LaFrance ladder with the Salisbury, NC fire department.

All white engines with red and blue stripes are used at the Spartanburg, SC fire department. This is the first all LTI ladder I have ever seen. Normally, LTI provides the ladders for aerials and towers. This example is L1 and is a 1987 with a 100' ladder.

Spartanburg (SC) fire department's newest ladder is this 1995 Pierce Lance with a 75' ladder.

A Mack/Thibault 100' ladder does the chores for Spring Mill Fire Company in Whitemarsh, PA which is just outside the city limits of Conshohocken. Interesting note in this shot is the addition of an exhaust stack that fits to their station exhaust system. The company just purchased a 2002 E-One ladder that was built not exactly to specs and had to be sent back to Florida for corrections and I just missed it.

Spruce Pine, NC is located in the foothills of some North Carolina mountains. If you are ever in the area try driving state road 226A from Marion to Little Switzerland. That will give you an idea of the terrain in the area. This is a 1997 Sutphen with a 75'+ platform. Nice looking piece for such a small town. I really like the star striping, unique.

Sumter, SC is home to Shaw AFB and FES, the fire equipment manufacturer. Sumter fire department's choice for a ladder is this 1997 KME equipped with a 102' ladder.

Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company always has a good turnout at parades and events throughout the state. This is their beautiful Pierce Arrow ladder seen at the station dedication parade in Middletown, Delaware.

Another great looking ladder belonging to Whitesville (SC) fire department located near Charleston, South Carolina. This is a 1999 Hauonor/Spartan cab 105' ladder. I may have the spelling wrong on the name.

West Columbia, SC finally got a ladder truck. I guess it will eventually be painted into the traditional red colors of the West Columbia FD to match their other fine equipment. This is a 1972 Pirsch with a 75' ladder.

Put on your sunglasses for this fire company. There whole fleet is bright chrome yellow equipment and are definately an eyecatcher. This 1992 E-ONE aerial ladder is one of several large pieces of equipment I found in this rural southeast Pennsylvania town tucked away deep in mushroom country and just down the road from Avondale, Pennsylvania.

This beautiful 1998 KME tiller is operated by the city of Wilmington, Delaware Fire Department and is the only full-time paid fire department in the state of Delaware. Check out their pumpers and rescue on the applicable pages.
