and less useful questions regarding our troupe.

What is a
Phantom Sheep!?
The original
Phantom Sheep is actually a puppet! It is a character
that we developed while working as puppeteers at Riverside
(now Six Flags New England) and soon became a character
in the first original script sold by Eric and Kevin. We first used
it as a production company name on the first episode of
our local TV show The New RRN (Rubber Room News),
where the sheep appeared in nearly every episode (We never expected the
character to become that popular). He
lurks in the shadows, he haunts, he taunts. He is cute,
adorable, and a master of disguise (kinda). He appeared
in PuppetWorks stage shows featured at Six Flags for over 11
years, reoccurring segments on RRN, several LaughCrafters
cameos, and even performed in front of a full house at
Northampton's famed Academy of Music.
In recent years, the troupe has
simply been known as "Phantom Sheep", clarifying "Players" when
referring to the improv and sketch performers, or "Productions"
when referring to the overall company.
We kept
it as the name of the company for a few reasons:
It was a
major character from one of our first professional gigs and
has become sort of a good luck icon for us.
It sounds like the cool name of a punk rock
band, and we try to present our interactive theatrical shows
with that energy.
It's unique,
makes people smile, and hard to forget....just like our shows!
What do
you Do?
We are creators
of original quality entertainment and Arts education for
schools & corporate events.
Our services
and talents include:

comedy (specialty in sketch, improv,
satire, and parody along with emcee services)
- Conduct workshops in skills such as comedy
improv, acting, and team building!
- Voice

- Video
production (our own sketch comedy and available to help
produce industrials, promos, and training videos)

and design for theatrical/media events and attractions
We have worked in
theater, schools, colleges, libraries, theme parks, live and
recorded television, radio, and specialty venues.
What is
LaughCrafters?
LaughCrafters is the brand name given
to our original created comedy short scenes. It originally
referred to our improv show, which is "comedy created right
before your eyes". It was then extended to our
improvisation workshops, and eventually the show grew to
include more scripted and pre-recorded sketches mixed in. Most
of those sketches originated from improvised scenes. We enjoy
LaughCrafters because it is our showcase of the comedy arts
and a method how we create. The troupe boasts over 250 scripted
sketches produced and countless improvised scenes! You can see it live
on stage, clips online, compiled on DVD, and fun workshops
being taught to your group.
Who are
the Phantom Sheep Players?
The Phantom
Sheep Players is the repertoire troupe of improv
writer/performers that are seen in such shows as "LaughCrafters", and form the basic
inner creative team of all our shows and productions.
Currently the core players include Eric
Boucher, Tommy Lynch, Jesse Redmond, Aaron Reynolds, Paige
Stawasz, and Jeff Tingley with newer members Josh Prouser
and Stevie
Norman. You may still see special appearances by featured alumni Devin Horan, Jessica Lamoureux, Greg Seymour,
Jenny Taylor, and Kevin "Zippy" Zabawa. The majority of the current cast has
been working together for over a decade, and some since the late
90's.
Where is
your troupe based?
We are based in
Western Mass, a haven for the Arts and we are the longest
running professional comedy troupe in the area. We mostly work
throughout the New England and New York region focusing in
Hampden and Hartford counties. Since 2019, we have
partnered with Unity House Players in
Springfield, MA as a home base location for our public shows,
adult classes, and more.
How did the troupe form and how does it
operate?
Phantom
Sheep Productions started in 1996 as the creative team of
WSCTV's local cablecasted "Rubber Room News" (RRN) and
Riverside's "PuppetWorks" with co-founding members Eric
Boucher and Kevin Zabawa. Most of us have met through
our work with Six Flags Entertainment and in improv classes.
Our members are alumni of Westfield State, HCC Theater,
Sleeveless Theater Power Improv & masters classes, USC,
Sci-Fi Network, STCC, Salem State, Majestic Theater, Six Flags
Entertainment, Red Door Theater, Silvertree Productions, Opera
House Players, and work that includes off-Broadway and LA film
festivals.
Today, as a
team we offer a wide variety of entertainment and services
such as writing, audio and video production, perform, and
teach workshops for theme parks, schools/colleges, libraries,
churches, community theaters, and other organizations.
We also fully produce our own live and recorded shows in
various theaters, DVD's, cablecast, and online media.
The troupe
may be contracted through our artistic director Eric Boucher who coordinates everything
to ensure you end up with a complete production. Several other
troupe members also act as associate producers, site liaisons,
and instructors, and may be contacted at any time. We work
closely with your group to make sure no detail is left out
from publicity to venue layout so that you end up with a
quality show and successful event.
What's with the Puppets!?
- One of
our first "breaks into professional showbiz" was being
casted as puppeteers and most of our team is trained with
puppetry experience. The Phantom Sheep itself is actually a
puppet character! Although we don't consider ourselves
a puppeteer company, the required skills of a small group
being able to play multiple characters and entertain
multiple ages has become a core value of our team.
- Our
PuppetWorks series, full of pop
culture parodies and random silliness, ran successfully for
over 11 years at Six Flags. We also recently created the
original show "Mrs. Claus' Christmas
Eve" which features many new puppet characters as well
as live singing, dancing, holiday parodies, and audience
interaction. Please be aware that these type of shows
are major productions and not suitable for small "birthday
party" type events. They are recommended for medium-large
installs and several day run with a large stage and much
pre-production.
- We
sometimes use puppetry in a sketch or other "non-puppet
show". For example: "Gary the Gargoyle" in "Mayhem Mission"
or "The Frog formerly known as Prince" in "StoryTale:
Fumbled Fables". We have also
created puppets for local theater productions such as
"Seussical: The Musical". We have
even created an improv game that uses some of our puppets
that is sometimes performed in "LaughCrafters".
- We offered
puppetry workshops and been consultants on shows like
"Avenue Q" and have directed "Little Shop of Horrors".
Puppetry is a great way to teach connection with your scene
partners and audience.
Are your
shows and programs suitable for kids?
For many shows,
yes. For some shows, it depends. Some of our work is political
parody or social satire that may be more appropriate for teens
and adults. We avoid excessive gratuitous cursing and cheap sex
jokes. We may go "PG-13" at times, but rarely "R"
level. We want to make theater enjoyable for as many
audiences as possible, but you know your child best and what
they can handle.
We also have
extensive experience working with kids in schools and
libraries. A large portion of our early "commercial"
success came from our popular family shows working in
the theme park industry. With fun
music, witty jokes, silly parodies, and appropriate
dialogue, we never underestimate the intelligence of
kids and their love for good entertainment. Plus
we aim to make our family shows equally enjoyed by the
adults with sharp writing, interesting characters, and
clever satire! Because
of that theme park experience, we have become
experts on entertaining and working with groups
young and old.
Since most of our public
"LaughCrafters" improv shows are unscripted and depend on
the audience's suggestions, some of the material may not be
suitable for younger audiences. However, if you book a
LaughCrafters show specifically for a school age audience,
we are very skilled and serious to keep everything safe and
appropriate for that age group.
What kind of
workshops do you offer?
We are proud to
offer several workshops and classes to
enhance your organization's skills, customer service, and
sometimes just to motivate and entertain. Professional
instructors in the entertainment industry will work closely with
your group for a unique and fun event sharing their experience
and coaching so that everyone has a great time and learns new
skills. Most members of our troupe have worked more than a
decade as trainers in a corporate entertainment setting and have
developed programs that became company standards.
Our most popular workshop is LaughCrafters:Comedy
Improv. These are excellent for ages teen to
adults, both for theater and non-theater students. Our
"Laugh Out Loud in the Library" series has been very successful
part of many teen programs throughout New England. We have also
used exercises and games from our improv repertoire to teach
workshops in Team Building, Communication, and being able to
interact with co-workers and customers.
We have also
proudly partnered with Unity House Players to
offer weekly classes in improv. Click here
for more details on current classes
Other
classes and workshops we offer include:
- Clowning
and Discovery
- Character
Movement
- Balloon
Animals
- LEGO
"Build Up"
- Puppetry
All of our workshops and classes are
taught with humor and encouragement with lots of coaching and
interactive participation of the students. We pride
ourselves in being able to showcase the best in everyone and often
the "shy" ones are breakout stars amazed at their own
brilliance. We can customize a workshop to serve the goals
and needs of your organization!
What is the age
range for your classes?
- We now have a great partnership
with Unity House Players to offer more improv

- For our adult classes, we do

prop builders, set designers, video producers, and emcee
talent! Let us know what you have in mind and we'll help you
add that professional theatrical edge!
What is your payment and refund policy?
- Adult classes for individuals:
- We are very flexible and able to
set up payment plans in most situations.
Typically we ask for at least 30% of the tuition
to be paid by week 1 of a class session and the
full amount to be paid within 2 weeks of the
class conclusion. We recommend checks (made
payable to the instructor or Phantom Sheep
Prod.), but also accept cash, venmo, or paypal. Contact
us for more info.
- Refunds may be given up to 7
days prior to the start of class or event. Once
the class begins, there are no refunds. If the
student must drop out within 1 week prior or 1
week after session starts, 50% of their tuition
is still due. If the student drops out after
week 2, there is no refund. In special cases of
medical concerns or other emergencies, we can
possibly apply credit to future classes.
- For most after-school and other
youth programs, registration and payment is
handled through the sponsoring venue. Please
consult them for more details.
- Groups and companies booking our
shows and workshops:
- Payment is usually due within 30
days after the event. We prefer payment by
check made payable to the troupe. Tax and
other vendor info can be supplied as
needed.
- If event must be cancelled with
less than 14 days notice, 50% of fee will still
be due. If event is cancelled with less than 48
hours notice, 75% of fee will still be due. Of
course, we will always work with organizers to
reschedule an event if needed.
- More details are in our standard
performance agreement most organizations receive
upon booking or by request.

the Meaning of Life?
One of our

It may've
started from the crazy Davis dorm cult many years ago, but our
fans have grown along with us. We love meeting new
people and are proud to have entertained all age groups.

feedback! If you are a fan, we'd love to hear from you and

What kind
of cool PSP swag can I get!?
We sometimes
offer DVD's or T-shirts, and 1" buttons with their favorite
show logo or character on them! We also now have NEW STICKERS
featuring the artwork of our own Jeff Tingley! For just a buck
or 2, you can get a pin or sticker to swagify your stuff!

These are available
at most of our improv shows and workshops. In fact, we often
give some away free each show to an audience member for
"suggestion of the night"! We are not in the retail
business, so the small cost we ever charge for promo stuff
covers the expenses to make it and any profit goes right back
into producing more stuff for you.
How do I
audition and/or get to be part of your troupe?
This is a common inquiry we get. We are lucky to work with so many talented
people who make our work look so good from their performances
and craftsmanship; however the actual troupe itself purposely
remains small as a core group of colleagues and friends who have
worked together for MANY years. We do not have "open call
auditions" nor are we accepting applications or resumes for
troupe members at this time.
If comedy, especially improv, is something you are interested in
being a part of...then please take a look at our "LaughCrafters Classes".
Our programs have trained several people who went on to work
professionally in theater, comedy, broadcasting, and the
entertainment industry. Troupe members Tommy, Jenny, Devin, Paige, Aaron, and Stevie actually started
off as Phantom Sheep workshop students many years ago. We
are not promising if you take our class you can join our troupe,
but we often give our students performance opportunities to
showcase their skills in "LaughCrafters" throughout the
year.
PLEASE do not solicit resumes or otherwise ask for work
through our website unless specifically directed. Any
related audition or business opportunity will be advertised with
the proper schedule and application process as they arise. Most of us also work with many local
community theaters and share audition opportunities, especially
for shows one of us may be directing.
If you are a professional who wants to
use our services in a collaboration, please submit us a
proposal.
Most of us studied and practiced
professionally for years and value the integrity of the process
and the relationships we've built. Our advice besides what's
listed above is: research, be educated, have patience and
passion...and immerse yourself in the environment at open-mics, as
an intern, attend shows, workshops, whatever. Above all, do it
because you love it and not for fame and riches. If you want to
check out other helpful sites, go to our fun
and related links page.
