It was awful. I was surrounded on all four sides by strange purple-black
hybrids. Zach, Josh & Megan were trapped on one wall, pounding for their lives, when the glass they were in broke, and them along with it, by a very large hand.
"No! Zach! Megan! Josh!" I yelled out as my friends vanished.
By me were my five Pokémon, when the same hand grabbed each of them and squeezed them to nothingness.
"No! My Pokémon!" I said as I knelt down and started sobbing. Then I heard a familiar laughing, when I looked in front of me, and there was Kataki!
"Do you really think I would let you go so easily!" Kataki said while laughing. He reached out to kill me, when he started speaking differently.
"Hmm. His vital signs have stabilized. That's good. I'm going to go run some tests, and I'll be back later"
I woke up to a room surrounded in sky blue walls, with sunlight filling into the room, and was feeling like I had hit a ton of Rhydons.
"Good. You're awake. The doctor will be back shortly to check up on ya." Josh said, sitting next to me.
"What..happened?" I tried to say but I could barely talk. My throat felt like it had been in a vice.
"Don't talk. You're throat's still sore from Kataki. You & Zach have been in a coma for about a week. Zach woke up a few hours ago, but he's resting right now." Josh said, "Oh, by the way. Your 6 Pokémon were healed. Megan's getting them now."
"Six? I only...had...five" I tried to say.
"Yea, well, you remember that Horsea you saved? Well, it evolved into a Seadra and repaid the favor when Kataki threw you overboard. Then it stuck as your Pokémon." Josh said.
As if on cue, Megan walked in with her bag full of Poké Balls. On top of it were Pichu & Zubat. As soon as it got into the room, Zubat flew over to me and hugged me like I was gonna die.
"Happy to....see you....too...pal."
"Glad to see you're feeling better" Megan said as she put the Poké Balls on a nearby chair. Just then, Zach started spurring and woke up.
"How are you feeling?" Megan asked.
"Like I just got trampled by a herd of Donphan" Zach said, lifting himself up a bit, cringing in the process, "Arg. My stomach still hurts. Looks like I'll be in here for a while. How do you feel bro?"
"Aside...from my...head, throat...stomach...and arm in pain...all right I guess"
Zach could only laugh weakly. Josh & Megan smilied a bit. Zach looked up and seemed lost in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" Josh asked.
"Oh, I was just thinking about the Gym Battles I had when I was a trainer."
"Hey, you never did tell us about them" Megan said.
"Never did, did I? Well, you guys wanna hear?" Zach asked, to which all three of us nodded, "All right then. It started almost seven years ago. I had just gotten my first Pokémon, 'ol reliable Geodude, from my dad when one snuck into where he worked. He drove me to Pallet where Oak gave me all the neccessary things, you know, the Pokédex, Poké Balls, etc. At that time, Team Rocket was just starting up, and more and more Gyms started to pop up, as well as new species of Pokémon, including the fossils and dragons. Anyway, I
had no luck on Route 1, since most of the creatures either hid, or were too strong for Geodude. I decided to fish near the river and caught a Staryu hooking itself to a boot. It tried to fight me off, so I sent out my Geodude. Even though Geodude was weak to water, it held its ground since it could hover. Staryu, though, was too strong so I had to resort to Self-Desruction, which made Staryu weak enough for capture. I spent the night in Viridian and healed my Pokémon. Back then, the Gym was still under constuction, so I
decided to head for Pewter. The forest wasn't as crowded as it was a few years later, and I had trouble finding anything but wild Beedrills & Butterfrees, who were too quick for Geodude and too strong for Staryu. When I finally did find a Caterpie or Weedle, it often got knocked out in one blow from Staryu or Geodude, then I got chased by more Butterfrees & Beedrills"
"Heh. That must have been fun." Josh joked.
Zach gave a sly smile & continued, "Well, I finally got to Pewter. I had been raising Staryu & Geodude for about two weeks, and thought that they could handle the leader, Flint. I went inside, and Flint's oldest son, Brock, was playing a game with his Onix. After I challenged him, Flint returned Onix and sent out a Cubone. I decided to use Staryu since it was a Water-type. Well, Cubone was pretty strong and it's Bone attacks knocked Staryu silly, but I eventually got a powerful Water Gun in and knocked the thing out. Flint
returned it and sent out the Onix, who was just too big for Staryu. So, I recalled Staryu and sent out Geodude. Geodude & Onix exchanged Tackles a lot, but once again, Onix was too big. I had Geodude use Defense Curl, but it didn't do a whole lot, so I just told it to use Mega Punch over & over again. Eventually I wore Onix down and fainted it. That's how I got my Boulder Badge, which I keep forgetting to take with me from home. Anyway, I trekked out towards Mount Moon, since I heard there's a lot of good Pokémon there. Along the way I managed to capture a Mankey, but it was too wild so I sent it to Oak, a Jigglypuff, but it kept putting me to sleep so it went to Oak, and Paras, who was a bit scared. Staryu had a bit of trouble, but eventually beat Paras so I could capture it. I spent about a week there raising them to beat the Cerulean Gym. Back then, the Sensational Sisters were my age and had just inherited the Gym. Each of them used one Pokémon. Violet was up first, and used a Horsea. I tried out Paras in it's first real battle, and while Paras did pretty well, Horsea manged to knock it in the water, and Paras can't swim
on their backs, so I recalled it. I sent out Staryu and beat Horsea with a Swift. Lilly came up next and used her Seel. The Seel didn't know many attacks, mainly just Headbutt, Surf & Growl. Staryu avoided the Headbutts & Growls easily, but the Surfs were hard. Eventually Staryu used a Spinning Tackle to break through and ram Seel into the pool. Finally, there was Daisy. She called out her Goldeen. Goldeen knew much more than Horn Attack, and used Waterfall to slam Staryu. I recalled it and sent out Geodude. Daisy called me a fool and told Goldeen to use Waterfall, but Geodude grabbed a platform and used that as a shield. Using the platform, Geodude managed to get closer until it could Mega Punch Goldeen. However, at that moment it evolved into Seaking, and I thought I was screwed. Seaking got a huge Waterfall up, and
Geodude used Defense Curl to block some damage. Knowing it wouldn't win, I decided to go for all or nothing. I called for Self-Destruct. Luckily for me,
Seaking was near the blast and it fainted in one hit. Since I still had Paras, I was called the winner."
"Whoa. I never knew that their Seaking was that old. Must be really powerful by now." Megan said.
"You're...telling...me" I tried to say.
"Heh. Well, that was the easy part done" Zach said, "You people had it easy. When I was training, there was a big Scyther gang, kinda like the Squirtle Squad before they became the Fire Fighters. I think the Scyther gang moved to some Orange Island somewhere. I forget where. Anyway, I had the unlucky chance of running into one of them. They were very wild and powerful, and once captured, could be used in one of the early Gyms almost immdiately. Of course, being so strong, they were hard to find, but I ran into one, unfortunately. This one was really angry. I guess I stepped into its territory. Anyway, It tried to cut me up, but my Geodude & Staryu double-teamed it and pounded on it. It still wasn't enough though, so I sent out Paras. Using Stun Spore to paralyze, I had some Swifts & Tackles and Scyther was pretty beat up, but still strong. It broke free and started slashing everywhere. It took me about an hour to keep running. It clobbered Geodude, Staryu & Paras, so I ran. Eventually it got pooped out from all the flying and was weak enough to capture, so I did. For some reason, I didn't send it to Oak, and kept it. After coming back home, I ran into the Gym. Surge had just evolved his Raichu and begun his long winning streak. To
battle it, I decided on Geodude. I kept calling for Earthquakes, but Raichu was too fast and kept overpowering Geodude. With a mighty tail swipe, it sent Geodude into the wall. Then it started Mega Punching & Kicking it, until Geodude started to glow white and evolve! After evolving into Graveler, it
kicked Raichu's butt and won me a Thunder Badge. Returning home, I stayed there a couple days and told Mom & Dad about my journies, then set off. I got to Celadon quickly by sea, and saw a trainer beating up on a Pinsir because it lost a battle. The trainer walked off leaving a severly bruised Pinsir in the middle of the road. I picked it up and went to the Pokémon Center & healed it. Because I cared for it a lot, the Pinsir decided to come with me. I stopped off at the Mart and bought some Potions, as well as a Water Stone, which I used on Staryu to evolve it. Afterwards I challenged the newly appointed Gym Leader Erika to a match. She used her Tangela first, so I used Pinsir. Tangela tried to paralyze Pinsir, but Pinsir used Swords Dance to get out of it and crush Tangela with its claws. However, it lost to Weepinbell
easily. Scyther came out and rocked the Weepinbell with Slashes & Wing Attacks. It cut right through all of Weepinbell's Razor Leafs & Vine Whips. Erika then called out her top Pokémon, Gloom. Gloom used its stench to beat Scyther, and since Geodude & Starmie were weak to Grass, I used Paras. Paras tried to attack Gloom, but it didn't have much luck, as Paras was too small to avoid most of the hits Gloom made. It was then that Paras got up its courage and evolved into Parasect. It slashed away at Gloom, and then
finished it with Spore, putting the flower to sleep. I was really proud of my Grass-type that day."
"I never...knew...you had...a Parasect" I tried to say.
"Yea, it would've really helped out today!" Josh said.
"Heh. I guess you were too little back then to really remember my Pokémon well. Anyway, I went to Saffron City next. Back then, their Psychic Center
wasn't a full-fledged Gym. Their Gym was a Fighting Dojo. The Karate Master only had two Pokémon, Hitmonchan & Hitmonlee. Hitmonchan was easy enough.
Scyther used its Flying type to dodge all of Hitmonchan's attacks and used Wing Attack to put it out. Hitmonchan tried to use some of its Element
Punches, but Scyther's Slash put those out. Hitmonlee was a problem. It knocked out Scyther in one hit. I decided to use Starmie since it was part Psychic. None of its Water attacks got through thanks to Hitmonlee's feet. I tried Tackle, but it just got kicked back. So I decided to use Starmie's Psychic side and used Psychic & Psywave. Since Hitmonlee couldn't block them, it was hit hard. I eventually got the badge, which was shaped like a fist. I had decided to head down to Fuschia City, so I used Starmie to Surf down
there. Right outside I saw a wild Growlithe. Starmie was tired from all it's travels, so I used Golem, who had evolved earlier that day during a trainer battle, to rock it's world. Eventually I captured it using
Earthquake. After getting my Pokémon healed, I went to Fuschia Gym, which in that time wasn't so out of the way. Inside, Aiya was still trying to raise her Venonat right, when I came in. Koga came down with his 500 Voltorbs, and accepted my challenge. He started off with his new Venonat, so I chose my new Growlithe. Venonat tried to paralyze Growlithe, but it couldn't beat Growlithe's Flamethrower. One attack and Venonat was down, so Koga used Golbat. I returned Growlithe and used Scyther. Scyther tried to use its Slash, but Golbat's Screech shot it down. Golbat then used Supersonic, but Scyther got out of it quick and slammed Golbat into the wall. Then, with one quick Slash, Golbat was out & I won. After I got the Soul Badge, I left for a ferry to Cinnabar. Golem absolutely hated the trip. He was sick almost the
entire time. I eventually made it to Cinnabar, which then was a serious Pokémon Research Island. Blaine's Gym was highly advertised. I went in to get my Volcano Badge, but Blaine wasn't easy. He started off with his Ninetales, and I used Growlithe. They both used up their Flamethrowers on each other, but they ran out of flames before the end. Ninetales had the advantage and
beat up Growlithe using physical attacks. I called out Starmie, and doused the fox with Hydro Pump. Blaine used his Rhydon, but that was doused as well by Hydro Pump. His big gun, a newly caught Magmar, dodged all my Hydro Pumps and knocked Starmie into the wall. After recalling it, I sent out my Golem. Magmar tried using its Fire Blast to burn Golem, but Golem's Harden deflected the blow. After basically dodging & blocking the entire battle, I told Golem to use Earthquake. Magmar was thrown high, and caught by Golem. One more
Seismic Toss and Magmar was done. I was proud of my Golem. I didn't stay in Cinnabar much after getting my badge. The League was only a few weeks away, so I went to Viridian to get my badge. The Gym Leader there was Giovanni then. He had a ton of Pokémon to choose from. He started off with a Cloyster, so I used Pinsir. Pinsir used a ton of Slashes against Cloyster's Withdraw, but Cloyster used an Auroa Beam and K.O.ed Pinsir. I recalled it and used Parasect. Cloyster tried to use Auroa Beam again, but was put to sleep by
Spore. Giovanni recalled it and sent out Machoke. Machoke tried to pound in Parasect, but its Slash kept it at bay. Machoke kept dodging Parasect's Stun
Spore, but got slashed when it tried to toss Parasect. Machoke got it a huge Low Kick, so I used Leech Life to gain back life. Then I told Parasect to Scratch, and beat Machoke. After it was recalled, Giovanni sent out a Rhydon. Rhydon tried to beat Parasect, but Parasect jumped up, dodging Rhydon, however, it was slammed by Rhydon's tail. I recalled it and sent out ol' faithful, Golem. Golem pounded Rhydon it, but Rhydon went to town on Golem. Golem tossed Rhydon, but Rhydon's ramming power crushed Golem. I had only one
choice. Golem charged up and unleashed a Fire Blast. Rhydon wasn't hurt much, but it gave Golem an opening to use Body Slam and win. After getting the badge, I headed for the League. I won all four field matches there, only to lose against this young upstart named Lance. He had one powerful Dragonite. His Dragonite beat all of my Pokémon. I trained for another year and went to the League again, and lost in the 6th round this time. I forget his first name, but I remember he had the last name of Ketchum. The match wasn't televised, and he was under another name, but I found out that that was his last name. I had heard he was in the league the previous 3 years. Anyway, after that, Dad got laid off from his job in the steel mill, so I returned home and gave up my trainer days."
"Whoa. I never knew you fought Lance" Megan said.
"Yea, and that name Ketchum sounds familiar." Josh said.
I could only smile. Zach laid back and remembered the trainer days. I could tell he wanted to go back to those times.
"Hey, what happened to your Growlithe, Starmie & Parasect?" Josh asked.
"Well, Parasect became really sick while on the site and eventually died from a disease. That was one of my few dark spots during my trainer days. Growlithe found a mate and had puppies. We couldn't keep them all, though. One of them went to a wealthy family. I think they gave it to their son, James. Anyway, Growlithe eventually went to the female Growlithe's trainer, since they were so happy together, and I couldn't head out with my dog. As for Starmie, It found a bunch of other Staryus & Starmies in the bay and loved being with them. Starmie went down with them a lot. Eventually it lived down there. Usually, it came up to see how I was doing, but eventually it just stopped coming." Zach said, almost ready to cry.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked." Josh said.
"Ah, it's OK. I've learned to deal with it." Zach replied.
The doctor came back in with our medicine. I thought I would choke to death swallowing that yucky stuff. Officer Jenny came in just then and said that she found nothing in the warehouse except the effects of the battle. Kataki must have gone somewhere.
"Wonder where he went" Zach asked.
"Probably to come up with some plan to kill us all" Megan said, jokingly.
"You're probably not far from the truth." Josh said, with worry.
Meanwhile, in South America, a relatively short, snowy, mountain sat with a large jungle & river in front of it. Right on the edge of the Andes, a small Bulbasaur began playing with a Squirtle & a Pikachu. They passed a Venusaur with white stripes on them. On the river, a Blastoise with edged cannons and spots on its shell raced other Water types in the river. A
Charizard with black stripes flew across the sky in a relaxing manner as other Pokémon enjoyed themselves. On the mountain top, on a snowy ledge, a large, cat-like creature sat with its legs crossed, deep in thought. The creature concentrated and found itself deep in space, a long distance away from Earth. It saw a ship in the distance. As the creature flew closer, the ship came into view. It was a very large ship, almost half the size of the moon. As it moved closer, the ship reacted to it. Several small ships scattered out and fired lasers at the creature, hurting it. The creature fought threw and tried to enter, but as it touched the ship's exterior, it was shocked with thousands of volts of electricity, easily more powerful than any Electric-type Pokémon. The creature came out of meditation out of breath, and had a worried look. He has had this thing in a vision for a few weeks, but it has no idea what this thing could be. Whatever it was, it had enough power to seriously weaken the creature. Another small creature, looking
similar to the tall one, but much lighter, flew up and landed on the tall creature's side. Speaking its own language, the small one went over to the tall one.
"Yes, I am alright. It was the same ship I saw in my vision. I have this terrible feeling that it is coming to Earth. I don't know what it wants, but if it has an evil intent, I don't know if the Earth can stop it, Mew." the tall creature said. Mew started up at its clone in shock. Just then, it sensed something up ahead. Several helicopters were heading towards their location. Flying over there, the two decided to inquire the pilots destination.
"Where are you going and what is your intent?" the clone stated. It could see these helicopters are built for war, even though there were no major battles going on in the reigon.
"Ah, Mewtwo. It took a long while to find your location. You covered your tracks well, even erased Giovanni's memory of your training. Luckily for me,
Giovanni also had written copies of your experiment which you forgot about. Using satallite technology, I was able to find you here. Most exquistie."
"I said this before, what is your intention? Who are you?" Mewtwo asked, more sternly.
"My name is Kataki. I'm here to capture you." Kataki said.
"Heh. No trainer can capture me." Mewtwo said, smiling, as it started charging.
"Really? I beg to differ" Kataki said, smiling.
Mewtwo started charging up when it heard an explosion. Him & Mew looked down to see a number of Team Rocket agents capturing all of the cloned Pokémon. Mewtwo started to head down to help, as well as Mew, but there were stopped by a deafing sound.
"Oh, does that sound hurt? It's my very own invention. Not only does it send out a deafing sound, it nullifies your Psychic powers." Kataki said, pressing a button.
A small ball launched from the helicopter Kataki was on. The purple & white ball hit Mew and automatically captured it. Mewtwo tried to escape the field and save his friend, but he started falling because of his powers failing. Kataki pressed another button, in which a different wave shot out, engrossing Mewtwo. Mewtwo let out a loud yell, then stood still. "Stop the waves." Kataki said.
The waves stopped. Mewtwo stopped himself, then his eyes started to glow, but not the usual blue. This time, its eyes glowed red. All of the cloned Pokémon as well as Mew were in Poké Balls. Mewtwo floated up to Kataki's helicopter, awaiting his command. Kataki had won. He had the most powerful Pokémon of all under his control, and soon no one could stop him. As the
helicopters flew off, Kataki could be heard laughing manaically. His day will be coming, and no one would forget it.
