![]() Making a dent ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Believe it or not I had what I would consider to be a semi-productive day! The shock may be too much for my system. I turned down the offer to go to the movies and dinner with my mother and brother, with the intention of getting things done around here, and to some extent I really did succeed. I turned off the television and put five CDs on the player, set it to shuffle and got to work.
![]() First was the kitchen. Not only did I clean, but I rid the fridge of other life forms, boiled a bunch of eggs to have for breakfast during the week, and made my diet lunch concoction that consists of yogurt, cottage cheese, pineapple tidbits and Stella Doro breakfast treats. Notice that I think I’m going to diet this week. I’m such an optimist! I also cooked a chicken for dinner. A whole chicken, that I can stretch for three dinners!
![]() Finishing the kitchen I moved on to the bathroom, where I scrubbed and scoured (even though it didn’t really need it), and finally hung a picture that I bought several weeks ago. Hanging the picture was a challenge, because for weeks I’d been trying to locate the box of nails and picture hooks. I knew it was around, but couldn’t figure out where I’d left it. I finally found it on a stool in my bedroom under some stuffed bears. It made perfect sense, as I’d been trying to nail this border thing around my air conditioner. It keeps falling down and I can’t figure out how to get it to stay. Every time I turn on the air it comes crashing.
![]() Bathroom done, I started to lose focus and went from one thing to another. I did re-do the pictures in the bedroom that were in the collage frame that fell. This had been sitting there since Father’s day. I also finished sticking stamps into boxes and threw some old magazines I’d been saving. This was not easy. I am not good at throwing. I have a terminal case of "You never know when" or "What if..". I am incapable of throwing things away.
![]() I sort of ran out of steam. And while anyone who dropped by would think that I haven’t cleaned or organized in years, I know the truth. I just wish I could get even more motivated and finish this stuff up so I don’t have to think about it anymore. ![]() Listening to: Whistle Down the Wind Reading: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Weather: 80, overcast Trivia: Where did the word "corporation" come from? Quintus Septimus Florens Tertullianus, better known as Tertullian, was among the best linguists of the second century. From Latin terms that meant the making of a body from components, he coined a new title for an established organization: corporationem. Scholars of the 15th century discovered the ancient term and applied it to any organized group, such as the corporation of surgeons. But it was not until 1600 that English law provided for a such body to act as though it were an individual - That is, corporations became artificial persons created by charter and capable of living much longer than humans. By Colonial times, organizations and land companies were encouraging investors to pool their resources in order to form corporations. As a result, a term born in Roman legal circles is one of the most common and important words of modern business. Cool word: coterie [n. KO-tuh-ree or ko-tuh-REE]
An intimate group of people unified by a common interest or purpose is a coterie. Often, a coterie is an exclusive or select group that distinguishes itself from outsiders. Example: "Erin longed to be a member of her school's exclusive coterie." The original coterie was an association of French peasants who held land together. The English borrowed this French word in the mid-18th century. It is a variation on the Old French cotier (cottager or tenant), which is of Germanic origin. It is akin to the Old English cote (hut). Near synonyms of coterie include: clique, club, society, set, and inner circle.
