![]() Fairly quiet ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This has been a quiet day. For the most part I spent the day trying to get the quilt started. I’ve discovered that this is not going to be an easy task! I think the largest problem is my lack of plan, pattern and focus. I know that what is supposed to happen is that you buy a pattern, buy specific fabric to fit that pattern, then logically and systematically make your blocks. I of course have done not one of these things. I did buy a magazine of supposedly easy quilt ideas and directions for making the blocks. It gave me one of those "Eureka!" moments, when I’d find a block, decide it looked easy and attempt to make it. Now for some of the blocks it did work, but on others they didn’t give exact measurements, which meant they didn’t allow for the seam and the blocks were the wrong size. I plugged along and made the blocks even though nothing will be a normal size, and I’ll later have to figure out how to get them to a uniform size. I did make the borders, which means I’ve worked in a totally backwards manner, but that was the fabric that I wanted to see what I had for leftovers. So I can say I like what the border and back will look like. The rest is iffy.
![]() Dee got back from her two week vacation to Michigan. She brought me the cutest soap in a little bag that says "Somewhere in Time" from the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island. That’s one place I’d like to see someday. I do love that movie! We went out for dinner and gossip, so I could fill her in on everything she missed while she was away. Mostly stuff about Lisa flipping out. I think I’m tired of dealing with it. Lisa has called several times a day for the last two days. I’ll be glad when all this is over with, although I wonder if it really will come to an end. ![]() Listening to: Dance with me - Soundtrack Reading: Eclipse Bay Weather: 80, overcast Trivia: All in the name of fashion... If you think the platform shoes people are walking about in today are impractical, look no further than 17th century Venice. High-heeled shoes were all the fashion back then. Eventually the heels became so high that women could not walk in them, and servants were hired so that the ladies could lean on them while getting into and out of a gondola. That makes contemporary stilettos look positively practical! Cool word: caveat [n. KA-vee-ot, KA-vee-at, KAH-vee-at or KAE-vee-at] Something that warns you against doing a certain act or practice could be called a caveat. Near synonyms include: warning, caution, and proviso. A caveat can also be an added explanation meant to prevent misinterpretation, something that qualifies a more general statement. In legal usage a caveat is a formal request to suspend a proceeding until the opposition has a hearing. Caveat emptor is a legal principle meaning "let the buyer beware." Caveat is derived from the Latin cavere (to be on guard). It first found its way into use in English in 1533. Cavere is also the root word of caution (warning against danger).
Horoscope Aries It might be time for that reality check. This week could present many challenges. If you just remember to practice patience and perseverance despite all the obstacles, your rewards are likely to come later. Don't worry, the weight of the world should start to subside a bit later in the week. |
