It’s so done!

Finally.

That damn reading program that has been the bane of my existence since last August is OVER!!! Wahoo!! Today was the last seminar, I handed in my final reports and I am finished!

Was the program worthwhile to learn? Maybe.

Will I ever use it again? Not in this very structured, redundant, boring format. Watch, someone will force me to do it in the next couple of years!

But I can put all that stuff away and worry about it in September. Sweet relief.

I’m still trying to get all these reports finished up. I finally finished all the testing I’ll have to do this year, and just have to write the reports. I can tell that I’m just not into this anymore as the quality of my reports has been zooming downhill. I’ve got the philosophy that it’s the middle school’s problem now.

I was quite irritated that one of the mother’s who is the most persistent and irritating blew off a meeting that I had scheduled for her, at her convenience. So typical. As it turns out, they’ve moved and are trying to hide that fact. What they haven’t counted on is their son telling the world all about it.

Gotta love those kids!

I don’t plan to schedule another meeting for this woman, time is up and I have no where else that I can squeeze her in.

Yay!

Tomorrow is the day I’ve been most dreading. The parents I hate the most, who have sucked up all of our time and energy and who have a lawyer that they bring with them are meeting with us tomorrow morning. I know this will be ugly. I hope the principal can keep things going and reasonable. I’m dreading that they will get ugly.

Not that I think they have anything to be ugly about. We have jumped through hoops to provide special programming for their daughter, and I feel as if we have given her a good education this year. The only thing that holds this kid back is that the parents don’t help her at home or hold her accountable for anything.

And what really stinks is that I’ll have to deal with them next year as they have a son who will be on my caseload.

Ick.

I finally finished the last Harry Potter. Now I can’t wait for the fourth one! I haven’t been this hooked on a kid’s book in years! It’s so nice to see something that is well written, plays with language enough to keep the adults interested and makes kids want to read.

Guess I’ll have to go back to the book I was reading before I decided to take on the last two Harry Potters. I was enjoying it, so that’s not a bad thing.

Maybe I’ll actually get a lot of reading done now that I’m not working this summer.

Gulp. Makes me nervous!

Trivia: How does the Global Positioning System work?

One of the wonders of the modern world is that a handheld electronic instrument can tell you exactly where you are on the planet, including your altitude. This is the Global Positioning System (GPS), which uses a fleet of 24 satellites carrying extremely accurate clocks to aid navigation worldwide. When a GPS receiver is activated, it listens on radio frequencies for signals from the GPS satellites. These signals contain precise information about each satellite's location in space, along with the exact time when that information was sent out. When the receiver has time and location information from four different satellites, it uses its own computer to figure out where you are. By taking into account how long each signal took to travel at the speed of light and exactly when it arrived, the GPS unit can determine where you are.

Cool word: dillydally [vi. DIH-lee-da-lee]

Distracted by a window display or unable to select what you want to order from a menu, you might be described as dillydallying. Example: "Stop dillydallying and make up your mind!" Since the mid-18th century this alliterative word has meant wasting time by loitering or not being able to make a decision. Near synonyms include dawdle, hesitate, and delay. Use of the word dillydally was prompted by the repetition of the word dally which comes from the Middle English dalyen. Still today dally means to waste time or act playfully. Dalliance (the act of dallying) shares the same heritage. A similar reduplication is seen in shilly-shally, which describes showing hesitation or indecisiveness. It is derived from a 16th century repetition of the question "Shall I? Shall I?"
