Doubles Teams Questions

More Doubles Teammate Questions

While the big question surrounding the doubles tournament may be who Steve will tap to replace Corey in this year’s tournament, there are, as always, several uncertainties as the Halloween Foosball Tournament nears.

2005 Doubles Tournament Teams:

Steve & Corey (champions), Jim & Wilson (finalists), Nick & Kenny, Nick L. & Gina, Sothey & Dan, Joey & James Higson, Joey & Tim, Linna & Sopha.

Of the 8 teams that competed in 2005, very few (and perhaps none) are expected to return as teammates in 2006.  Corey is in Florida, Gina is in North Carolina, and Sothey & Joey Higson are in the Navy.  Therefore, unless any of them are able to attend, only 3 teams could potentially return: Jim & Wilson, Nick & Kenny and Linna & Sopha.

However, Nick & Kenny are unlikely to team up this year as Nick has announced that he will team with his long time partner, Kyle and Kenny has been openly courting Steve to be his partner in ’06.  Jim & Wilson teaming for the 3rd time in 6 years is a definite possibility but in no way set in stone.  There would appear to be no obstacles to Linna & Sopha returning (they were the first team of two girls to win in the doubles tournament), but Sopha has said she might not be able to make it this year.

The bottom line: The Doubles Tournament is wide open.  In more ways than one.

Here’s a look at some of the top players and who they could potentially see themselves teaming with:

James Ostis: 2005 partner: Wilson.  Jim has not ruled out teaming with Wilson again, but hasn’t ruled much of anything else out either.  His other two former partners, Angel and Greg, are options but less likely.  As discussed elsewhere, Steve could be a darkhorse candidate.  But there is talk that Jim will choose a newcomer, possibly a girl, to be his partner in ’06.

Greg Ouellette: 2005 partner: DNP, 2004 partner: Jim The last time Greg participated in the Doubles Tournament he teamed with Jim.  The chances of them teaming again probably rank somewhere between the chances of Greg teaming with either of his other former partners.  Less likely than a Ouellette reunion with Keith (who could be known as the “last ones left” with Betty & Gina in NC and Dennis soon to join them).  But a hell of a lot more likely than Greg reviving his team with Lena, who played in 2001.  Other candidates could be Angel Nales (many know that Greg is Angel’s bitch) or maybe Linna Hor, since Linna loves the Monkey fucker.

Steve Ostis: 2005 partner: Corey: Yeah we wrote a lot about this

Nick Ostis: 2005 partner: Kenny Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Nick will team with Kyle Bielski for the 5th time in 6 years.

Kenny Stuart: 2005 partner: Nick.  Kenny would seem to be the odd man out.  His last year’s partner, Nick, has said he will team with Kyle.  His previous partner, Gina, has moved to the Tar Heel State.  Kenny wants to team with Steve, and recently Steve has been talking about it as a possibility.  He was also once a partner of Wilson’s and if Jim and Wilson don’t team up again, then Kenny and Wilson could join forces, but hopefully not lose in the 1st round again.

Wilson Rith 2005 partner: Jim Wilson and Jim went to the finals in 2005.  They might choose to team up again in ’06 or they could go their separate ways.  If the duo does not reform for this year’s tournament, Wilson’s options could be Daniel D. who teamed with Sothey last year or maybe reforming his partnership with Kenny.

Shawn Paradise: 2005 partner DNP 2004 partner: None. Shawn Paradise is the only one who has been grandfathered in and is allowed to compete in the Doubles Tournament on his own.  So if he returns, his partner could be….nobody.

Besides that who knows?  We could see some more random teams like C.K. & Colin or Christos & Nick Lutz.  In some ways, it’s too bad that teams don’t stick together like Steve and Corey did, but it certainly adds to unpredictability of what has been a tournament full of surprises.
