Statistical Notes about the 2006 Halloween Foosball Tournament
The New and the Old (and pretty much nothing in between). The 2006 HFT set a new record for debuting newcomers in the 16 player tournament era. There were 6 first time players in the tournament, only surpassed by 1997 when the tournament expanded from 8 to 14 and there were 7 newcomers. The previous record for the most rookies in a 16 person field was 1998 with 5…..Offsetting the unknown of the newcomers was the experience of the veterans. Of the 11 returning players, Colin had the fewest games played with 5. There was only one previously winless player who participated in the 2006 tournament, Kyle, who tied Gina Ouellette for the most losses without a win with 7….Alex, Holly, Sam, Jerry, Marc and CK may have made their debuts this year, but will they be around for the long haul? When you take into consideration that Colin actually played a play-in game in 2000, none of the ten players who made their Halloween Foosball debut in 2001 or later participated in the 2006 Tournament.

Streaks: Keith Ouellette set a new record for most consecutive Halloween Foosball Tournaments by an Ouellette when he participated in his tenth straight tournament, breaking the record of nine that his brother Greg set in 2004…James and Steve Ostis hold the overall consecutive tournament record with 11. Keith is tied with Nick Ostis for third place on that list. After that there is a considerable drop off. Corey Pinkham played in 8 straight tournaments from 1998-2005, a streak that was snapped this year. Kyle Bielski and Kenny Stuart are next on the list with 7.

Other Stats: There were 3 overtime games in the first round in 2006. The most ever for a first round. There was only one shutout in the 2006 tournament, Kenny 5, Holly 0…..Alex Figueroa became the first person to beat Steve Ostis, Greg Ouellette and James Ostis in a single year. Corey is the only other person with victories over all 3 of them but never faced them all on one night….Greg failed to reach the final four for the first time in his career. He had at least reached the semi-finals in every single one of his 9 previous tournaments. Jim improved his record consecutive final four streak to 11. Colin has faced Keith in the first round the last three times he has played, losing in 2003, but beating him in 2004 & 2006. Puerto Ricans are 36-10 all-time in the Halloween Foosball tournament (Angel has 8 of those losses). If you take away the games Angel played against Corey and Alex, their record becomes 34-8 against all players from other heritages. |
