Halloween Foosball News 'N Notes

A devastating loss last night ended the 2003 season for the Boston Red Sox.  Grady Little cost millions of Sox fans a trip to the World Series by leaving Pedro Martinez  in the game way too long and the New York Yankees won the game.

Ehhh....enough about that.

Well the Red Sox loss does have an effect on the Halloween Foosball Tournament. The Tournament finally has an official start time.  The entire extravaganza will begin at 3:00, with either the football game or the softball game being the first major event (due to daylight).  The Halloween Foosball Tournament itself will remain the main event and start much later (probably after dark).  Since the tournament won't have to worry about a Red Sox game at 8, expect the tournament to go until about 10:00 or so.

In addition to mental distress, depression, and the sickening feeling in the stomachs of Red Sox fans that won't go away for awhile, James Ostis suffered further injuries by punching his hand through a glass door.  He spent much of the night at Saints Memorial Hospital in getting fourteen stitches on his right arm.  So Jim can literally say he bled for the Red Sox's cause.

Patrick and Jonathan Casserly are officially out of the Foosball Tournament.  Pat said that he has to go to a cousin's Eagle Scout Ceremony and an ensuing family get-together that night and thus his hands are tied.  In an ironic note, Pat also shared that he punched his computer screen (and he shared this with me before I even mentioned my injury.)

Steven Ostis resolved his conflict with work on the 25th, and given the circumstances, its likely the best win-win situation.  Steve will still be able to coach and compete in his Boys Club Swim Meet in Taunton but will leave early enough so as to not miss much of the Halloween Foosball Tournament. At one point it appeared that Steve would not be able to make it back until at least 5:00, and at that point it still appeared the tournament may have ended at 8:00.  Nicky Ostis is also on the team, but he may not even attend the meet.  Steve serves as a swimmer-coach so he basically has to go.

Wilson Rith also has a conflict that day, but as a worst-case scenario, he will be late at least that's what it appears. He has to dance.  No word yet if James Higson is involved.

The Online Halloween Foosball Tournaments are now down to the elite 8.  8 competitors remain in both the 2003 VHFT and the Celebrity Tournament.  Another recap for the Celebrity Tournament is coming soon, however, if you don't want to wait, you can vote in the tournament right now.

Its what Jim has called the best addition to the foosball website since the VHFTs.  A new "Bartlett Fantasy Foosball" game will make its debut in 2003.  Everyone is welcome to join in, its free, and word is the winner will receive a "The Legendary Chuck" t-shirt.  The game would work just like all other fantasy sports where participants pick "teams" of players and whoever's team has the best night on October 25th will be the winner.  More details and specifics will be coming this weekend.

Notice that on the main index page it has been changed from "The Halloween Foosball Tournament proudly supports the Boston Red Sox in their push towards the World Series" to a note thanking the Red Sox for their wonderful season.  If it said "Thank you Grady Little" that would be coming from a Yankee fan's webpage.

We are now under ten days away from the 8th Annual Halloween Foosball Tournament, which will be a week from tomorrow, October 25th.

Thank you Boston Red Sox for the great season.  You deserved much better.
