NATURE'S
UNIVERSAL ANTIBIOTIC ALTERNATIVE
Prior
to 1938, Colloidal Silver was a popular mainstay in medicine as an
antibiotic treatment. Over the last several decades, with
antibiotic-resistant germs considered to be a continuing
“epidemic” and accounting for an alarming number of serious
infectious disorders, Colloidal Silver experienced a renewed
popularity as a supplement.
While
most modern antibiotics disinfect about a half dozen or so germs,
silver has been reported to disinfect hundreds. Most importantly,
unlike conventional antibiotics and medicines, germs cannot build a
resistance to the action of silver.
Colloidal
silver is considered by the Food and Drug Administration to be a
pre-1938 drug. The interpretation of this fact has created some
confusion in the marketplace, arising from a letter from the FDA
dated 9/31/91 stating, “These products may continue to be
marketed without submitted evidence of safety and effectiveness
(required of all prescription drugs marketed after 1938) as long as
they are advertised and labeled for the same use as in 1938 and as
long as they are manufactured in the original manner.”
The
FDA soon after released another letter officially reversing this
guideline, and now the current status of colloidal silver is that it
can be manufactured and distributed, but no claims regarding
effectiveness against disease can be made without going through the
complicated and expensive drug approval process. To be precise, it is
okay and accurate to say that colloidal silver has anti-bacterial
properties; but you cannot say that because of these anti-bacterial
properties, colloidal silver will ‘cure’ a disease.
Prior
to 1938, colloidal silver was administered by doctors and health
practitioners in just about every way that modern drugs are
administered: intravenous, and intra-muscular injection, throat
gargle, douche, oral use, topical administrations, and as eye drops.

medical community as treatable with silver (see References

WHAT
IS A COLLOID?
The
term colloid refers to a substance that consists of ultra-fine
particles that are suspended in a medium of different matter (i.e. a
non-soluble mineral suspended in water). The particles in a colloid
are typically 0.01 to 0.001 of a micron in diameter, or about four
hundred thousandths to four millionths of an inch.
The
Russian scientist, S.S. Voyutsky, wrote that a colloidal system must
have the following three characteristics:

It
must be heterogeneous (meaning: consisting of dissimilar ingredients
or constituents, like silver and water).
- The
system must be multiphasic (meaning: having more than one phase,
i.e. solid/liquid, gas/liquid, etc.).
- The
particles must be insoluble (meaning does not dissolve) in the
solution or suspension. Each on of these three characteristics
interacts with the others giving colloids their unique qualities.
Alfred
Searle, in describing silver and other metal colloids, writes,
“Colloidal silver solution is quite stable even in the presence
of salts and of the normal constituents of the blood.
Silver
is used more widely than many people realize. NASA researched 23
different methods of water purification and selected a silver-based
system for the space shuttles. Not only does NASA use the silver
system, but also most airlines use silver water filters to guard
against waterborne diseases.
