Welcome to MapleWind Mastiffs!
Our family: Laura and Scott Warren, We are glad you stopped by and are thrilled to share with your our love of Mastiffs and a little about ourselves. MapleWind Mastiffs started in December of 1999, with the entrance of Katie into our lives. It truly was destiny that she became a part of our family (it's a long story); suffice it to say that we feel truly blessed that she is our matriarch. We never intended for Katie to be anything more than a beloved house dog. When her breeder, Suzanne Bush, mentioned that she thought Katie had "show potential," we didn't really consider ever showing her. After completing a basic obedience class, we decided to enter Katie in a local AKC show. With lots of encouragement and hand-holding from Suzanne, Laura ventured into the ring at the Columbia MO KC show in March of 2000. We were "hooked" when the judge handed us a 1st place ribbon! Scott jokes that it would have been MUCH cheaper in the long run had he bribed the judge to NOT put is first in the class. We went on to showing Katie to her championship, all owner-handled except for her two major wins, where her breeder Suzanne Bush handled her for us. After completing her championship, we've all enjoyed a break from the shows, and have been concentrating on obedience. Katie received her TDI and passed her Temperament Test at the 2001 MCOA National Specialty, and also showed very well in the competative Best of Breed class. Our Mastiff Philosphy Though we've been involved in Mastiffs for a very short time, both of us have many years of experience in breeding, showing, and judging purebred dairy goats. We've seen how important proper nutrition and correct conformation affect the quality of life for an animal--this applies to any kind of animal (including humans!). We belive that "form should follow function." This means that we believe Mastiffs should have the form (conformation) to carry out the function they are intended to. In the case of our Mastiffs, to be long-lived, sound dogs who have excellent temperament and are a good representative of their working heritage. Our goal is to breed Mastiffs that excel in type. We appreciate stylish, sound individuals that have fluid movement, and excellent breed type. Just as important to us is temperament--since our Mastiffs are family members, we strongly believe that there is no room for shy or agressive Mastiffs in our breeding program. We would like to thank the many Mastiff breeders who have helped us get our start. We especially want to thank Suzanne Bush of Honeycreek Mastiffs and Susan Krauser of Pendragon Mastiffs for entrusting us with Katie. As an MCOA Associate Member, we abide by the MCOA Code of Ethics. |
