ANTONNINE WALL
Welcome to my website about the Antonnine roman wall, since I
was a small child I have been amazed by the Antonnine wall with
all its forts and bath house. As a child I used to play at a fort on the wall near
Drumchapel Glasgow, the fort site is called Castle Hill,
unfortunately no trace of the site can be seen now, but some of
the wall can be seen at the back of the Bluebell Woods in
Drumchapel. I also used to go to other sites in Duntocher and to
the well known Roman Bath House in Bearsden. With this rich
history it is not surprising that I have tried to find out as
much as I can about the wall and the romans.
After I moved to Cumbernauld, it did not take me long to find
out about the wall on the east side of Glasgow. The fist time I
went to Barhill near Croy I was in for a shock, as well as the
fort there is also a bath house here as well, also a big round
enclosure which was where the horses and other animals were kept.
Standing there, it was as if I went back in time, it was as if I
could see the wall, the fort, the barracks, and the bath house
with roman soldiers and their families going about with their day
to day life. But the real shock was still to come, after I came
across another section of the wall, it was while I was out with a
friend walking our dogs. Having seen other parts of the wall I
was not prepared for this, it is the best section of the wall
still standing, about the only thing missing was the wooden
walkway that was on top of the wall, the walkway was about 15
feet high. Anyway enough about me, it is now time to tell you
about the wall. I hope you will enjoy your visit to my website,
and that you will come back again, if you know of something that
should be in this site, please contact me by E-mail.
