                 The Bottlenose Dolphin

The bottlenose dolphin has a dorsal fin which is high and curved. This fin is located near the middle of the dolphin's back. They also have flippers that are of an average length and pointed.

The dolphin can weigh as much as 1430 pounds at the most, however most are much smaller, and males are larger than females.

A bottlenose dolphin can consume up to 8 - 15 kg of food per day. The bottlenose dolphin will eat a variety of food including fish and squid.

Bottlenose dolphins tend to travel together in groups of less than twenty near shore. Off shore dolphins will travel in groups of hundreds.

A male dolphin will reach sexual maturity around 11 years, whereas a female will reach sexual maturity at 5 - 7 years. Calving takes place all year round with peaks in spring and autumn.
