Farfetched History / Member Bio's

Farfetched (1998- )
Farfetched was the brainchild of Corey Rademaker, whose almost sarcastic comment about starting a band led to the creation of the group. Fellow Grant Memorial Baptist Church member Conrad Koslowsky, involved in a guitar-related conversation across the room, sparked the imagination of Rademaker, who had tossed around the idea of forming a band. Rademaker suggested doing just that, half-seriously, but his idea was taken very seriously by the easily-excited Koslowsky. Steve Zacharias, another Grant member, was an easy choice with his newly acquired bass guitar, to complement Rademaker’s vocals and Koslowsky’s guitar. Not wanting to make a living as an “unplugged” punk band, a drummer was needed. That proved no large obstacle, as Jeremy Epp, an almost life-long friend of Koslowsky entered into the venture eagerly. The members of Farfetched had been chosen; they were about to embark on a journey that would affect all of their lives. The first practise was held at Epp’s house in late August of 1998. Jeremy, having been exposed to punk music for the first time the previous day, with an MxPx CD, played his 15 year old Rogers drums, Conrad, with a total of six months experience with an electric guitar, played a Stratocaster borrowed from his brother-in-law (which he would “borrow” for quite some time), and with Steve on his massive grey, almost certainly stolen bass from Second Encore, the band hacked through MxPx songs with the sound that only four relatively inexperienced musicians could produce. By November, the band was ready for their first performance for other people at the Whyte Ridge Church. The set comprised of their first original song “Quarter to Four,” one Face to Face cover, and a whole lot of MxPx stuff……despite this, the band was asked to play again, albeit not for four more months. February 7 was the next major milestone in the life of Farfetched. The band opened at Shambles’ last show. Their four song set now boasted three originals (and luckily only one MxPx cover), and the band played well for four guys who had never played a real show, power outage and all. The band, thanks in large part to Zacharias’ efforts, made enough connections to play shows occasionally. The band continued on, adding a second guitarist in Rademaker, striving to serve God while doing something they enjoyed, and backed by Rademaker’s strong, evolving song-writing and lyrics, they started to develop their own distinct style, a product of four individual musical inputs and tastes. In December 1999 and January 2000, the band recorded their six song demo, “Rebel Without a Closet” with Joel Letkeman. In early September of 2000 the band recorded their first full length EP, “Beautifully, Tragically, and Unexpectedly,” which displayed at least some degree of musical growth. Later in that same month, bassist Nathan Goertzen, lifelong roadie of the band, was added to the lineup, as Koslowsky departed for eight months “study” at Capenwray in Germany. The remaining three members of the band press on, devoted to striving for musical excellence, while at the same time keeping focus where it belongs: God. The members of Farfetched anxiously await Koslowsky’s return, and the days when they can again perform as a four-piece. To quote Epp, “If the band ended right now, I don’t think any of us would view it as having been a waste of our time.” Indeed.
