NOTE: NO SPELLING MISTAKES ARE TYPOS

DON SCHELLENBERG'S ACCOUNT OF THE FIRST 15 HOURS AT GEORGE LAKE

SEPT 3rd. Left Bobby's house at 5:45 p.m. Got to the boat dock, very overcast. No rain. Took two trips to our portage. On the trail god muddy, wet, dark, quiet. "TREVOR, GRAHAM, WAKE UP" Bob it's OK, we'll get to the cabin soon. Got to the cabin at around 9:30 p.m. Cindy, Smokey, and a few opened the cabin, kicked out the mice and moved in. Now 10:55 p.m. We are all sitting around drinking fuzzy Kool-aid, and looking at each other.

12:09 We're still up, no fights yes just a lot of duirty looks... so we got a cribbage game going with Cindy, Jamie, Graham and Trevor. Jamie got a 24 and a 28 hand. Danual, Naython and Bobby are allready sleeping.

12:20 Starting to laugh, and laugh, still playing cards. (Time out Bob's making flufies, back to the game).

DAY 2, Sept 4/99 - Don got up at 7:00 a.m. Went fishing. "DANUAL" don't slam the door so early in the morning! My fishing rod real brock...broke. "Darn" Got back to cottage 8:15 a.m. Bobert is making fire. AHHHH WARRRMMM Breackfast was very good stufed ham with cheeze, backon bitts and toasted pigs feet. Well not realy, we ate suasages and pancaks loaded with surop. "Stop swining the ax over my head".

THE WHOLE GROUP'S ACCOUNT OF THE GEORGE LAKE CAMP
COPIED FROM THE GEORGE LAKE GUESTBOOK

Knock, er, chop on wood

‘WOW WHAT A COOL CAMP"

Let us tell you how it went. Made two trips by boat to the portage. There must have been rain the day before because most of us got our feet full of mud on the trail.

From the notes we read, there are a lot of mice here, touch wood, we have not seen any yet. Played cards till 12:30 a.m. Went to bed.

Sept 4/99 - Some got up at 7 a.m. and went fishing. "NO LUCK" Breakfast, pancakes, sau...sua...saw...weeners. Made some sling shots. Went in and we started playing cards. You may think this letter is boaring, well.....because it is. IT'S RAINING. There are 4 adults and 6 youth soon to be 1 or 2 less if it keeps raining!!! Hmmmmmmm who will it be.

2:33 p.m. now and still raining. Two going fishing and found first mouse. Gonna eat good tonite! Anyway guys leaving too fish now. Expect to see them skiing behind fish soon. Good luck guys. Stoked wood for kitchen stove this morning. Filled right to top. Last for long time (or until burnt). Found fuel can for boat (along with wasps nest almost bigger than cabin, empty thank goodness!). Still looking for motor though. Have one request... LEAVE TURTLES IN BOX! Please. Been taunting all weekend.

5:32 p.m. Still playing cards. Started to flick wraped candies across the table, had more fun than ever. Lots of laughing... on a rainy day (or weekend) Laughing is an indication of going insane lots of eye contact.
@.@
\_^_/.............He's still looking at me............

Don has a knife an a very glazed look on his face...Dan also has a glazed look on his face....but he's reading a book. Don....quit looking at Dan.

SKUNK IN A DRY BAG!!! (Sorry, inside joke)

Jamie is showing his rope tricks. No Jamie a noose is not a scout knot! "Quit looking at Dan".

4:00 p.m. Still raining. Trevor, Dave and Nathan just came in from fishing, no fish, but hot on the trail of a grouse. They said they got within 5 feet of it and it disappeared. Must have been a very talented bird.

Rain let up so we went out for practical squaw log and axe work for outdoorsman badge. Discussed axe parts and sharpening indoors, then chopped outside. Everyone passed and are now "certified" (lumber jacks and jills that is). When's supper, it's 6:00 p.m. already and the chief chef is going swimming with the others.

6:35 Well back from swimming time cool water. Step in and instantainour can't feel legs. Went in anyway. Refreshing. Still raining. Found leak in roof. Going to be annoying at night. Drip...Drip...Arrggh! Have now chicken hunting device being crafted by our master craftsman New-fangled projectile launcher looks like this. New technology is amazing.

"HERE CHICKEN, CHICKEN, CHICKEN, CHICKEN."

Sunday 5/99 12:26 good sleep. Only been up for 2 hours. Good thing slept in. Saw a beautiful bald eagle. Real close. Just cool. Wel, it's sunny... still raining, just can't win oh well. Talented mice. Ate peanut off traps. Traps all still set. Strange happening last night. Nathan and Dan (aka Fred) saw flying wood! Also a glo-stick flying amongst the trees. Hey gotta lay off the physics. Starting to get worried. Blair chicken sighted.

We don't know what time it is... "Who cares" Had breakfaster and went canoeing because WE SAW BLUE SKY. Got out with great x-pec-tations and went out for about 20 minutes. Had 3 bitts...bits...biyts...3 tugs on our line. Came in wet, sitting around talking, laughing, crying, quiet sleep.

---Beware! Of the George Lake chicken (grouse)---

It is a man eater. We think it hides during the day and only comes out after dark when you least expect it!
@_@
(__n_) It stalkes its victim(s) about the campfire. It throws sticks in other directions to confuse its prey. Then as you turn to those sounds it soars through the tree branches silently and awkwardly (it tends to bump into other tree trunks). It exctends it's talons into its victims neck and sinks them into your shoulder and rips you apart with its tiny beak. So if your sitting round the campfire tonight be vewy, vewy quiet and you might hear the George Lake chicken's gruesome call...
CLUCK!!! EH!!
This is sometimes confused with the call of the "Georgia Lake Chicken" of the Southern United States which goes...
CLUCK!!! Y'ALL!!

10:00 p.m. Came back from chicken hunting (well 2 hours ago) found squat. Almost saw one though. Maybe he was just teasing us to see what he is up against. Can hear his wings now. He's getting closer. Practicing for combat now Jamie trying to break log from corner of new addition. Blair chicken doesn't stand a chance. Every one went outside at ll:33 p.m. to see the stars, "yes stars" so that's what they look like. Bob P and Don S had a star wars fight with flashlights, "Cool".

Dan was ready for bed. But he had to change into his jamiys. So we told him to put his sleeping bag over his head while he was standing up right. He really did it, not bad. (Dan has nothing on a bag of hammers.)

Stayed up for awhile, talking about anything and everything. Before we went to bed we stoked the fire, "cool" NOT, it was HOT, REALLY HOT, HOTTER THAN HOT. It was so darn hot that the mice even took off their hairy coats, pink mice everywhere.

Day 3 - Sept 6/99 - Still alive. Subsided with panic once more, up at 6:40 a.m. Made fire sta...steir...ster...looked out the window for ˝ hour.

Scouter Don went fishing "Yaahooo" landed a bass, well as far as I know because it was this big, by that big and this long and was green. But I let it go. Ya right, no really you can even ask the guys.

Having breakfaster.
