BYOPM: Build your own   Build your own practice mace    practice mace

Note: as built by a non-technical learner.
Materials:
1. Tapered tubular fishing rod (inside diameter about 23mm at top of rod); this becomes the mace handle (A$0 - found a good second hand rod for free);
2. Spherical ball or anything else that is suitable for a mace head (use of extreme imagination helps); avoid anything with sharp edges (learnt the hard way - ouch!) (A$8 from house design shop);
3. Threaded metal rod about length = 300 mm, width = 5mm (A$2);
4. Wine corks (about 3 or 4) diameter slightly larger then inside diameter of top of fishing rod (about 25mm);
5. Nut to lock mace head onto threaded rod. Decorative nuts can be purchased from trophy shops (A$2.50);
6. Tennis racquet tape for mace grip (A$12).

Instructions:
1. Drill holes in top and bottom of mace head. Holes wide enough for threaded rod to fit through;
2. Fit threaded metal rod through mace head, securely attach nut to threaded metal rod;
3. Drill small holes (about 3mm) through corks and push corks into top of mace; Also secured the corks inside the mace with glue;
4. Screw threaded metal rod into corks until the mace head is locked onto the top of the mace;
5. Attach the tennis grip tape to the mace;
6. Also added chair leg rubber to bottom of mace tip.

Photos of first experimental mace made from fibroglass fishing rod and metal bowls: this mace was too heavy and the mace head design didn't work.
