Six Flags America News/Updates
For The 2000 Season

As I am sure everyone knows by now, Six Flags America will be opening a new coaster this year, Superman: Ride of Steel. This Hypercoaster stands at 200ft. tall, and will reach speeds in excess of 70mph. This new coaster sits directly behind The Joker's Jinx in its own newly themed area, Metropolis. Also in the Metropolis area is a new store, which is themed to the Superman, Metropolis Gifts, and a new ride called the Krypton Comet.

News/Updates As of 9/2:

Okay, I haven't posted an update in a while, but not much has been going on at the parks as of late. I just updated the Cavern with all new ride logos, and there are many new features that will be coming, along with somewhat of a new look for the Cavern's second season of thrills!

Ok, and now for the good part, I have just posted some new pictures from Six Flags America - 3 new Superman: Ride of Steel pics, 3 new Two Face: The Flip Side pics, 2 new The Joker's Jinx pics, and 1 new The Wild One pic. Believe me when I say, They are definitely worth a look! A special thanks to Ben Ashley for providing the Cavern with these incredible shots! More new pics to come...

News/Updates As of 8/17:

$300,000 Stolen From Six Flags America!!

Early Wednesday morning, two masked gunmen tied up five park employees and then fled with over $300,000!! No one was hurt in the incident. To read the full story, go to The Washington Post Online, by clicking here.

In other news, be sure to check out the great new ride simulation video for HyperSonic XLC, that is posted on the Official King's Dominion Site, or for a direct link to the video - click here. You will need Quicktime to view the video. Just a little info about the video, it shows the take off, (from both onlooker and rider point of views) and then it shows it running up to the top of the hill, unfortunately, we don't get to see it come back down or the rides finish. Also, this is not a simulation made for the original prototype, notice the King's Dominion logo on the car? Maybe they will release the rest of the video at a later date? I Hope!

Last note, I recently recieved my first ride review, its now posted and I am still waiting for more. Let your opinion be known! Tell everyone what you think of the coasters that you have been on, give tips for people who may not have been to the parks yet, whatever you have to say, say it!

Let Your Opinion Be Known! - Be the first to post a review!

Well, that is it for now, A King's Dominion update including photos of the work that is being done in preparation of HyperSonic XLC's installation is coming soon!

Ride On!

News/Updates As of 8/3:

Ok, this update is a little late but I decided to post it anyway. I went to Six Flags America on Thursday, July 27. Upon arriving I very quickly realized that it must have been some kind of field trip day or something, because as soon as I got in the parking lot, I saw what must have been over a hundred buses! (Maybe not that many, but a lot!) Well anyway, once I finally got into the park, this took even longer than normal as every kid on those buses had a bag which had to be searched through, I went straight for Superman: Ride of Steel. When I got to its entrance I was relieved to see that the line was only back to the end of the top level. Now everyone says that Superman: Ride of Steel has been running two trains, but it seems that whenever I go there is only one running, this proved true yet again. Only the red train was running. I did end up getting two rides though, the first time I waited one hour and the second I waited two, you should know that I did wait for the front seat both times which made my wait time significantly longer. Let me just say, Superman: Ride of Steel was riding great that day! It seemed to me that it was actually smoother and had even more airtime than before! Make sure you ride this ride!

Well, moving on, The Flip Side was down all day, from what I heard it had been down for a few days, although Im not positive why at this point. Renegade Rapids is still closed, but other than that everything else seemed to be running fine. Also, as a note The Wild One seemed to be riding particularly good, although if you notice, before entering the helix, the brakes seem to slow you down more, Im not sure when this started but I just thought you might like to know.

The King's Dominion update is still coming, Im working on it. Also, in case you didn't notice the news on the the main page - King's Dominion has announced there new coaster for 2001, a Thrust Air 2000 , to read more about it click the link on the main page.

Ok, I just changed the coaster poll on my main page. It is now "Favorite Wooden Coaster at either Six Flags America or Paramount's King's Dominion. Remember to vote for your favorite! As for the old poll, it recieved a total of 905 votes! Wow! Thanks for voting! In case you are wondering, here are the results from the first poll.

1. Superman: Ride of Steel - 350 votes
2. The Anaconda - 201 votes
3. Volcano: The Blast Coaster - 195 votes
4. Outer Limits: Flight of Fear - 84 votes
5. The Mind Eraser - 28 votes
6. The Joker's Jinx - 24 votes
7. Two Face: The Flip Side - 13 votes
8. The Shockwave - 10 votes

News/Updates As of 7/26:

Ok, well I haven't posted an update in a while, but this week there will be a few updates in a row - so check back often. First of all, the big King's Dominion update is still coming, it would have been posted sooner, but the pictures I took for the update were incorrectly proccessed so I had to send them back. I should get them back soon and the update will be posted (with pictures and all) at that time. Please note that the King's Dominion update will NOT be posted on this page but on the PKD updates page - there will be a link to it on the main page.

As for Six Flags America updates, I don't really have any right now, Superman: Ride of Steel is running at full force and aside from a few hitches (I understand that they are still having a slight problem with the braking system that has to do with how much weight is on the train - it is not a danger to passengers) now and then, it is running normally. I will be posting another SFA update in a couple of days with anything new thats going on, as I am heading out there tomorrow.

Lastly, I have heard that PKD will be releasing its coaster plans for 2001 in a couple of weeks - there is almost definently a new coaster coming! Also, I am hoping that SFA will release their 2001 plans soon, I hear that a new coaster is on the works there too! What can I say, I'm gonna be busy! Well, until later, Keep riding!

News/Updates As of 7/1:

This update is just to let everyone know that Six Flags America is planning to re-open Superman: Ride of Steel (finally!!) on Sunday 7/2. Lets just hope that it runs for more than one day this time! Also, Six Flags America is planning a big fireworks show for the evening of July 4th, think of the view from the top of Superman: Ride of Steel! Well, that's it for now, have a great 4th of July! Check back soon for more updates.

News/Updates As of 6/28:

I have just been told that Six Flags America is planning to Re-open Superman: Ride of Steel sometime this weekend, Although I am not sure what day. The Official Six Flags America Website states that Superman: Ride of Steel will be "opening soon" although it fails to mention the fact that it was ever closed. Just in case anyone forgot, Superman: Ride of Steel has so far broken its lift chain twice - once June 2 and then again a day after re-opening on June 18. It has now been down for a total of over 4 weeks since its opening in mid-May. Also, as a side note, although it has been down for so long, this ride is still most definently worth a trip, I can't say enough good things about it and I can't seem to find anyone else who doesn't feel the same way! Well, thats it for now, check back for more updates coming soon along with a couple of new sections - a Ride Review section, where everyone can review the rides they have been on (limited to the ones at SFA and PKD) and a Rollercoaster Fanatics Picture page, for anyone who wants me to post pictures of them at SFA or PKD.

News/Updates As of 6/20:

As of Monday, 6/19, Superman: Ride of Steel is again closed. There was a sign at the park's entrance alerting guests that the ride would NOT operate ALL day. The coaster had just re-opened on Saturday (from its last lift chain break on June 2) and from what I understand it broke its chain yet again on Sunday, 6/18! I guess they didn't fix it as good as they had thought! There were workers up on the rides' lift hill throughout the day Monday - they must be trying to figure out what the problem is. As for when it will be re-open - I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Also, it seems that during this past week or so one of the rafts on Renegade Rapids overturned. From what I understand the riders were trapped underwater for about a minute, after which a guest who was waiting in line, jumped in and freed the 5 adults and 1 child from the overturned raft. No one was seriously injured, besides some scratches and bruises. The child rider was taken to the hospital and later released. Renegade Rapids is to be closed until the cause of the accident is known. As an update to this story, as of Monday 6/19 they were refilling the ride with water, evidently they had drained it to see if they could find the cause. Re-opening date is still unknown.

As a side note, on 6/19 ALL of the other coasters besides Superman: Ride of Steel were operating as usual.

News/Updates As of 6/18:

Just a short update: I have been told that Superman: Ride of Steel is reopening this weekend- June 17-18, after being closed since June 2 when the lift hill chain broke (see News/Updates As of 6/7, for more details). Also, it is said to be running BOTH trains this time as it has only been running one (the red one) since it opened in the middle of May. With both trains running the wait time should be cut down significantly, which will mean a lot once the summer crowds hit. Well, thats all for now, more updates coming soon.

News/Updates As of 6/7:

Although I did not witness this event I thought everyone should hear about it:

On June 2, as a train was headed up Superman: Ride of Steel's 200ft. lift hill, the chain broke, and the coasters anti-rollback system engaged stopping the train's ascent at about 140 feet. Eye-witnesses say that the chain continued to slide down the lift hill until it reached the bottom where it made a huge pile. The riders on the train were helped off and escorted down over 140 feet of stairs to the station. No one was injured. As of Monday, June 5th the ride was not open or being tested. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. For an on-ride account of what happened visit: Coasterbuzz
