Great Blue Heron at Assateague Island

The Great Blue Heron is one of many species of birds that inhabit the marshes of Assateague Island. It is a patient hunter and often remains motionless, like shown in this photo, until it spots something to eat and then it strikes out with lightening speed to grab its prey in its long beak. It eats things like fish, eels, and frogs to mention some of its favorites. You can see an 800x600 image here.
