The Maryland State Highway Administration was once known as the State Highways Commission. Today it is the largest modal of the Maryland DOT. The Office of Traffic and Safety Traffic Safety Analysis Division was organized after the 1965 Highways Act. The division has operated since the late 60's providing data to traffic engineering units in SHA. Much of our current data reflects this history. We work together with the Maryland State Highway Safety Office who manages many of the public awareness programs. We are a both part of the Office of Traffic and Safety within the Operations of SHA.
Today we have 22 staff people and many computer resources to assist us in providing our customers with data and analysis. We are growing with and using new resources like the internet to our advantage. As we grow in our expertise and content we shall be testing the internet for business commerce.
This website is an information source for those interested in Maryland Traffic Safety Issues. We track legislation in Annapolis but have not included information in this web page. Some of the formal policy information for the public is available at http://www.sha.state.md.us under "Driving Safely".
