Shade and sweet water to you, readers! Welcome to my newest creation, this website which pays tribute to my favorite ElfQuest character of all time: One-Eye. This is to be what I'd like to call the definitive website of One-Eye and his kin. I've decided to make this introduction in order to explain to some of you exactly why One-Eye has always been my favorite character in the World of Two Moons. After all, it is a bit strange that my favorite elf is one who has been dead for many, many years... I was first introduced to ElfQuest between 1989-1990 by my next-door neighbor. She had begun collecting the large paperback books chronicling the many series of ElfQuest. I instantly became addicted, and read each and every book as she got them (it wasn't until later that I went out and bought my own ElfQuest books). Although I liked pretty much all of the Wolfriders, my favorite was always One-Eye, the elf who was almost never in any of the panels. And when he was, he was in the background, behind one of the many main characters. Why was I so taken with this particular elf? That's a question I still ask myself, even now. His appearance was the first thing that caught my eye: dressed in greens from head to toe with a black patch over his right eye. His demeanor and the way he presented himself (or, rather, as Wendy and Richard Pini presented him) was the second thing that got my attention. He seemed to be a Wolfrider in every sense of the word and, even though he was an elder in the tribe, he still accepted young Cutter as chief. It was clear he had a very loving relationship with his lifemate Clearbrook and his son Scouter (which would become even more apparent as the series wore on), something that I also found intriguing about him. I always got frustrated in having to look to the backgrounds of the comic panels to find my favorite character, but I took solace in the fact that at least he was in the series... That would all change as I got to the end of book three. After reading the end of book three, I was devastated. One-Eye had apparently been killed, and Clearbrook was filled with grief. As my neighbor collected and read the fourth book in the series, I waited patiently to find out what happened. After she finally finished it, and handed it over to me to borrow, I asked her, "Does he get brought back to life? Is he really dead??" She only said with a straight face, "You'll have to read it yourself..." Needless to say, I was psyched when I thought Leetah had successfully brought him back from the dead... Then I cried tears of sadness (right along with Clearbrook) when her attempt failed. But even though my favorite elf was only there in spirit, I still kept right on lovin' him. When the 'Wolfrider!' series came out in the late 90s, I was ecstatic. Here was a "flashback" story drawn by Wendy Pini, which meant... One-Eye! Even though One-Eye was featured in the foreground in a few panels, I was happy. After all, it had been a while since I'd seen this elf in a current comic. A few of the questions I'd had for years about One-Eye were finally answered with the creation of the 'Wolfrider!' storyline, but I still wanted more. When I first discovered ElfQuest dot Com, I was shocked to find that there weren't any fan-sites for One-Eye. Even bad boys like Rayek and newcomers like Tier had sites dedicated to them! And so, this site came about. When I initially set about constructing the site, I found that there were virtually no images of One-Eye on the web whatsoever, so I decided to draw some of my own, as well as scan in some panels from the ElfQuest comics I own to help illustrate One-Eye and his kin's biographies and such. Each image has been colored by myself (hey, I ain't exactly a whiz at coloring in Photoshop, but I did the best I could; at least they aren't all in black and white!), with the exception of the beautiful coloring of my drawing on the main page, done by V3 -- a friend of mine. If ever I get into the comic industry, something I'd love to do is draw for WaRP and finally tie up One-Eye's loose ends. They've been left dangling for far too long now. I read in an interview with the Pinis (part of which you can find on this site), where Richard told a fan once: "One-Eye's story is told." Sure, the end of his story has been told, but what of the beginning? And the middle, for that matter? Anyroad, I hope you enjoy this website. It's taken a lot of time and dedication to bring it to the state it is in now. Even if you're not a fan of One-Eye, there's still a lot of information about his family, including lesser known characters like Longbranch and Brownberry. I realize that many of you may feel that I am living in the past, which is something the Wolfriders themselves don't particularly like. I do live "in the now," but in this case, I figure that living in the past isn't too bad a thing where characters like One-Eye are concerned. This website is merely a way to pay tribute to my favorite ElfQuest character. Lastly, I'd like to dedicate this site to a few individuals: Lilly Newton -- my (then) next-door neighbor -- for first introducing me to the wonders on the World of Two Moons, Wendy and Richard Pini for creating such enjoyable characters and stories, and to every reader who's favorite characters are often overlooked -- to everyone who has had to look to the backgrounds of comic panels to find the characters that give them joy.
