(Baltimore Evening Sun, July 8, 1960)

A 20-year old military policeman, who has excelled in sports in the Baltimore area since his high school days at Calvert Hall, is Fort Holabird's new Soldier of the Month.

He is Spec 4.C. Dennis C. Flannery, son of Mr and Mrs Francis X Flannery, of 2501 Weatherburn road, who was chosen Soldier of the Month for his general soldierly bearing and knowledge of military subjects.

He received a $15 cast award, a three-day pass and a Letter of Commendation from Maj. Gen. Richard G. Prather, commanding general, Fort Holabird.

The Baltimore soldier will act as the commanding general's flag orderly at all official ceremonies during July.

He entered the Army in October 1958 and was stationed at Fort Meade, after basic training and MP School, until April 1959.  He was then assigned to the MP detachment at Fort Holabird.

Flannery is a 1958 graduate of Calvert Hall High School, where he played four years on the school hockey team, making All State at center for two seasons.  He also played one season in the Washington VFW All-American Post Amateur Hockey League....
