I
look around the room today and I come to realize all the different roles Joseph
Lucas played. He was a Husband, a
Father, an Uncle, a Grandfather, and a Friend.
The way he impacted our lives is something that we will never forget.
From what we know, his childhood was hard, but this shaped who he became
and paved the way for his great life.
He provided a strong and fulfilling
life for his wife Eileen and children Mark, Michele, Kathy and Kelly.
The life he provided for his children is something that they will never
forget. Eventually his children
grew-up and had children of their own. And
I know from my own experience that just being around grandpa brought warmth to
my heart. I also know that this held true for all the grandkids. I know
how hard it is to think that he is gone. And
all of us are endlessly searching for a reason why.
But I have come to the realization, that there is no reason why, but
rather it was just his time. The
hurt and pain is still very strong in our hearts, but we cannot help to become
overwhelmed by all the beautiful memories;
Grandma’s most memorable memory –
Father Shae offering grandpa one last chance to run out the back door, and also
walking down the isle with the man she would love for the next 48 years.
Mark’s most memorable memory – His
entire childhood in general, everything was wonderful.
Michele’s most memorable memory –
How Grandpa always reassured her how proud he was of her.
Kathy’s most memorable memory –
How Grandpa came up with the nickname “bumps” for her.
Kelly’s most memorable memory –
Christmas mornings. How beautiful
and perfect they always were.
Carolyn most memorable memory
– How Grandpa told her how pretty her hair is. And how he always wanted
it.
Jim’s most memorable memory – How
Grandpa taught me how to shoot a gun, and how Grandpa and I would shoot at the
squirrels out the bedroom window.
Susie most memorable memory – When
Grandpa was going nuts about the Toy soldier ornament last Christmas.
Meghan most memorable memory – When
Grandpa and her would do their traditional dink and donk.
Kristie’s most memorable memory –
When Grandpa would call her his “buddy”
Emily’s most memorable memory –
When she told him he was silly that he had a “special” fork.
Matthew’s most memorable memory –
Was Grandpa’s tools.
Grandpa is gone now, but he will never
be forgotten. He will always stay
in our hearts, until we join him in heaven.
Life doesn’t last forever,
sometimes is cut way too short,
try adding up the logic,
and at time’s it will come to right.
You would do anything for anyone.
you would have given them the shirt
off your back,
you were kind, generous and caring.
They were qualities that you never
lacked.
And some people live their life and
they get their three scores and ten.
But some don’t get to leave their
mark,
And others die lonely old man.
And everything for a reason,
Even thought it’s not that clear,
But your spirit is with us,
You will always be near.
And so life must go on,
Just like it has done before,
Just know you’ll always be with us,
Yesterday, now and for evermore.
