]OUR FAMILY TREE

Deb's paternal, great Grandfather, Terence Brennan standing behind his parents, Patrick Brennan and Helen (Devlin) Brennan.

Like many Americans, our family's genealogical history is a melting pot of European ancestry sprinkled with rumors of links to Native American tribes. Deb's immigrant ancestors came mostly from Ireland, Scotland, and purportedly Holland, England, Italy and France. We know very little about Deb's paternal grandfather's family, so we've begun with her paternal grandmother's Scottish/Irish lineage and her maternal grandfather's American roots. Family stories claim that her family are descendants of Navaho and Iroquois peoples on Deb's mother's side of the family, but for now those are still just stories.

Red's, maternal roots are purported to be French-Canadian and German; and his paternal roots are mostly Scottish and Irish. Our goal is to record as much of our families' rich and varied history as we are able and to preserve that history for our families. The next time one of our children or grandchildren jump up on our laps and ask to hear about the "old" days, we want to be ready and actually have stories to tell them.

We are certain that this is the beginning of a journey on which we will travel for many years to come and hopefully leave as a legacy to be continued by other members of our family. In a way, we are attempting to ensure our family's immortality. For as long as our ancestry is recorded, we may not be completely forgotten. A snapshot of our lives will occupy a small place in the historical records, hopefully, to be rediscovered someday when one of our descendents feel that inner need to reconnect with the past. A past that will include us among those many ancestors whose forgotten paths we, ourselves, have now set out to rediscover.

We used a free program from The Church of latter Day Saints called Personal Ancestral File (PAF4) to organize our genealogy files. You can find the download on their site.
