Chapter 10

Isaac's mouth dropped open. He knew she must have been hiding something, but having her own fathers baby? He knew that it was terrible for a woman to get pregnant from any rape, but when it was the woman's father as well as the baby's, it was more than awful, it was sick. Poor Terry. he thought. She wasn't kidding when she said she had something pretty bad to tell me, but why does she seem to think we'll blame her?

" You're joking!," he exclaimed.

" I wish I was, but I'm pregnant," She said. She took his hand and placed it on her abdomen. " See, I'm already starting to show. I don't know what to do. I'm only fifteen, I can't have a baby!"

" I can see why you didn't want us to know," Isaac replied. He jumped up," We've gotta tell my parents. They'll be able to help you."

" Not yet! I'll tell them, I really will, but I need to think about this some more,"

"All right," Isaac sighed. He really didn't like that idea. His parents should know and they could take her to a counselor that could help her decide what to do about the baby, since no one could legally force her to give it up without good reason. " So what are you going to do with it?"

" I'll probably give it up for adoption. I can't be a good parent yet and besides, this is also my dads baby. I wouldn't be able to stand the thought of my kid and I both having the same father," Terry replied, angry at her father for putting this on her.

" Are you absolutely sure? I mean, when did you find out?," Isaac queried.

" Not long before I came here. You and I are the only ones that know," Terry answered.

" You mean you never went to a doctor? Then how do you know for sure that you're pregnant?"

" You mean aside from insomnia, no appetite, and hurling every morning? My period is rarely late, not even a day, and I haven't had my period for five weeks now. Also, I feel pregnant."

" Terry, you know that I won't tell anyone right now. But I don't want you to wait much longer or I'll have to tell my parents. But for now, I won't tell a soul."

Terry smiled and hugged him. " Thanks, Ike!'

Six weeks later

" Good night, everyone," Terry said.

" Going to bed so soon?," Diana said," but it's only eight o'clock."

" I'm just really tired," Terry smiled.

" You've been really tired a lot lately," Diana commented, frowning. She and Walker were both worried about Terry and wished that she would tell them what was wrong. But whenever Diana brought it up, Terry put her off, insisting she was fine. Diana had her suspicions, but she wanted Terry to tell her about it herself. Diana knew, though, that if Terry didn't tell her soon, she would have to do to a doctor.

" I'm fine, really. Just a little tired," Terry insisted.

" All right then. Good night dear," Diana said.

Isaac sat there with a frown, watching Terry leave the table. Suddenly, he jumped up and excused himself, then hurried off to the den.

" I'm serious, Terry! They know something's up! In fact, Mom's talking about dragging you to the doctor!," Isaac argued.

" I can't!," Terry cried.

" Why? You told me. Why would they be less understanding? You can't hide it much longer anyway and you need help in deciding what to do with the baby. It's past time you told them," Isaac reasoned, "and my mom can help you more then I can anyway."

Terry sighed heavily. He was right, of course. But how would they react? She said so to Isaac.

" Terry, we've been over this. It's not your fault you're pregnant. They'll understand that," Isaac replied, " I'm about ready to tell them myself."

Terry was silent for a moment, thinking. Then she came to a decision.

" All right, I'll tell them now, but will you stay with me? I'll feel better if I have support."

" Sure, no problem."

" Could you please bring them in here and tell them I need to talk to them? I'll be back in a minute, I just need to go use the restroom."

" Yeah, I'll do that. Be back in a minute."

Isaac hurried into the living room where the rest of the family had settled down to watch television. He walked over to his parents and spoke quietly with them so the others didn't hear.

" Mom, Dad? Could you come into the den? Terry needs to talk to you about something and she also wants me to be there with her."

Walker and Diana looked at each other, back to Isaac, then nodded. They went into the den and had just sat down when they heard Terry give a heart stopping scream. Diana rushed into the bathroom where the screams were coming from and gasped at Terry, who was standing in a puddle of blood.
