The Looking Glass (Part 8)

Chapter 8
It was a vortex.
Something Nikita had only ever seen in movies. //This whole mission is
becoming something much like a cheap sci-fi novel// was her last thought
before things got even stranger.
The vortex started to pull them in. It was like a vacuum where there was
suction. It was like the swirling colours were calling out to them and
making them feel as if the best thing in the world would be to step into
the spiral which mot likely led to oblivion and beyond.
And that’s what Nikita was doing, she couldn’t look away. She walked
slowly towards it and she could see out of the corner of her eye
everybody looking at her as if she was crazy.
“’Kita! What are you doing?” Michael yelled to be heard over the rushing
wind that had appeared with the vortex. He was using his pet name for
her. //He must be really worried// thought Nikita but the other part of
her mind was concentrating on getting to the portal. She stopped two
inches away and held her hand out to touch it. As soon as she touched it
she screamed. It felt like thousands of tiny needles going into her
hand. But she couldn’t stop from stepping into the portal. Her mind
demanded that she comply with the vortexes wishes. A wave of pain swept
over her and she slipped into blessed unconsciousness.

The other stared at the portal that Nikita had disappeared into. The
portal was just noticeably getting smaller and it looked like it might
close in a minute or so.
He ran towards it and tried to step in but a hand stopped him. It was
Buffy. “Are you trying to get killed?” she yelled.
He shrugged of her grip “Nikita’s in there!” he glared at her “I don’t
really care who you are or what kind of delusions you seem to have but if
you’re not going to help me get her out then get out of my way before I
blow your head off.”
Buffy stared at him and then blinked “I thought there was something more
there” she gave him a half smile “believe it or not I know how you feel.
All right then, lets go get her”. She looked over at Spike who was still
standing very still. “Coming?”
He grinned at her “Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
They all took a deep breath and jumped in.
